I believe Snyd has swapped in a 454 SRH cylinder into a 4" RH..

Saw a conversion of a 45 Colt 4" Redhawk with a 454 Super Redhawk cylinder in it. Owner said it worked well, but wouldn't do it without the cylinder from the 454. Didn't think the Redhawk cylinder would withstand 454 pressures. Only one I've seen.

Think yes, the 454 and 480 cylinders in SRH of that tougher alloy.

Assume you have in hand a RH 45 Colt now ? If you just plain WANT a 454, I understand. But with one of the dual cannelured bullets, seated long, and Ruger level 45 Colt loads, you can get some good performance. Nothing in 45 bore here, so I don't have specifics here for you though.

As above, with a new cylinder- either custom or a SRH takeoff, yes. A call to the smiths that do SRH work might yield a takeoff cylinder.
That said, my 45 Colt Redhawk will take heavier loads than I can stand with that grip- the Redhawk Only category splits the difference between Ruger Only loads and the 454. The SRH is the better platform if you're going bigger, and are available in factory form so you can spend your money on action work and sight upgrades instead.

Anyone had a 4" Ruger Redhawk converted to454 Casull? Thoughts? ***** Handled, but haven’t shot, a Redhawk 5-1/2” which I believe Ronnie Wells converted from .44 Mag to .454 Casull. Ronnie Wells is not allergic to big bore revolvers dealing heavy loads. As I recall, Ronnie opened the .44 Mag cylinder to .454, and had the barrel reamed & rifled to .45 with 1:16” twist. Ronnie’s Redhawk had the Ruger grip scales. I wouldn’t touch off that beast without the Pachmayr Presentation or Pachmayr Gripper between me and the double action hump. David Bradshaw

Too many years ago I shot a 45 Redhawk which had been converted to .454 and right now I can't remember the gunsmith's name. However shortly thereafter he started doing stuff for movies so the .454 conversions kinda went by the wayside. This was before Ruger offered the Super Redhawk in .454.

I remember now the gunsmith was Andy Cannon I think he wound up working on the "Dances With Wolves" movie

I HAD a Super Redhawk in 454! Notice I said had! That was the most painful to shoot revolver I've ever owned! Why I no longer have it!

Anyone had a 4" Ruger Redhawk converted to454 Casull? Thoughts? Yes. I've done it. Got a deal on a SRH, made the swap, sold leftovers, didn't cost me anything. But, given the strength of the 45 Colt Redhawk, if it were going to cost me any money, I'd not do it again. Here's a few pics of the process when I did it several years ago. All you do is pull the cylinders off the cranes and swap them. For my gun headspace, Cylinder gap, endshake were all in spec. I put the 45 Colt cylinder in the SRH ( a guy wanted it). It's my O$h1T backup, fishin, beary-patch gun here in AK. 355gr wfn a little over 1300fps from the 4inch barrel. Modified Lee expander die no expansion just a little flare when reloading and heavy crimp with Redding Profile crimp die keeps boolits from jumping after 12 round test. Magnaport tamed the muzzle flip and torque. Uncle Mikes grips save the thumb. it's beast for sure.

After shooting only one round of full house 454 ammo through a FA-83, I do not want to imagine the pain of a 454 Redhawk (or Super Redhawk).
