At the time I was at Fort Hood, but that was 2 decades ago. The gunsmith doesn’t have to be known, just skilled..

I shoot a lot of skeet. Shoot with a lot of world class shooters. A few just kicked ass at the worlds. The first thing they told me when I started shooting is get a gun that fits you. No reason nowadays to buy a skeet gun without an adjustable comb. Makes it easy to fit the gun. I’m a lefty so it’s a good idea for me.

Derailing, Trey. When I was a kid my dads' second wifes father had money and was friends with Eric Hooper, the owner of Hooper Farms which was on the banks of lake Apopka in a town called Zellwood. Hooper farms grew the best sweet corn in the south and LOTS of it. Every October the opening dove hunt was held there. All the stalks had been turned under and brown top millet was planted around the edges. When the hunt was over we'd head back to the packing plant for all the boiled corn and corn fritters you could handle. Wardens showed up one day to check bag limits and my nephew was with my grandfather who had two limits. When questioned by the officer my step grandfather said Rick shot the extra birds. An eight year old Rick stated "Now grandaddy, you know I didn't shoot those birds" in front of the officer. Fun times.

Quick kid story.

I went dove hunting as a shagger with my dad when I was a kid. At the end of the hunt everyone was telling tales. One guy said he had killed 6 dove, and shot 6 boxes of shells. I pulled on my dads sleeve and said “ Dad, if he had had 4 more boxes of shells, he could have gotten a limit”. That was a favorite story of Dad’s for years

This year was typical of my annual dove hunt.

Best I ever did accuracy wise was 30 shells to get a 15 bird limit.
Used a Remington 1100 12 ga IC choke.
Don’t shoot as much these days so it’s typically 3 shells per bird average.
I have great memories around Dove hunting.
