Has anyone tried purchasing a .44 magnum cylinder and having it bored to tight .45 Colt specs? Seems like it would be a good way to address the loose specs that the early Model 25-5s were famous for. That's the solution Find the right cylinder in the right condition and do it

The way mine shoots with it's large cylinder throats I'd NEVER touch it.

There are several ways to do things to accomplish your goals that are only what less than a percent of the people tell. Whether you want to be somewhat creative or do like everyone else does is your choice entirely. You pick your own way.

Whether you want to be somewhat creative or do like everyone else does is your choice entirely. You pick your own way. Bob the way you post things like that is like a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. It really tells us nothing. It would be better if you would tell people the "hows" to do such things. For example I described what I do with myh Model 25 Smith with it's oversized cylinder throats. I shoot the smaller .452 bullets and it shoots fantastic. I don't do any tricks with the brass or the loads. I didn't tell the folks here the main load I use. It's the RCBS 255 gr SWC which I mentioned overtop 9.0 grains of Uniquie. Out of my 8 3/8 inch barrel is well over 1000 fps.

The 25-9 had the endurance package and was also available in 4” with a fluted cylinder. Possibly longer barrels too but I’m not sure.
I changed the rear sight blade on my 25-7 to a shorter one to lower POI.

Whenever there is a discussion on the Smith 25-5s the large throats inevitably come up. I'm primarily a Colt shooter that enjoys prewar revolvers and SAAs. I had posted this on the Colt Forum and it seems relevant here as the Colts all have .456 + throats and I learned quite a bit on how to get them to shoot well. I always try to get the gun to shoot a good group to the sights and with fixed sight guns it can be a challenge. It takes a bit of trial and error with different powder and bullets to find a combination that does both. Some may find this helpful. From the Colt Forum: "I have several Colt New Service Revolvers in 45 Colt, 45 ACP and 455 Eley all with.456 chamber throats as well as a post 2011 New Frontier in 45 Colt with .457 chamber throats as measured with - pin gauges. As I began to load for them and focus on developing accurate loads that shot to the sights I had some success but kept searching for better results. I was using the sizer that came in my RCBS die set and was sizing the bullets with the readily available Lee sizers in .452, .454 and .457. In Dave Scovill's book "Loading and Shooting the Peacemaker" he mentions it's important to have a correct sizer for the larger throats because the one that comes in today's die sets designed for .452 bullets will actually cause a larger bullet to be sized down as it is seated. As I thought about it, I decided to give this theory a try. I contacted RCBS and they sent me a sizer (free of charge) from their Cowboy die set that is designed to work with bullets larger than .452. With the sizer from RCBS on it's way I ordered some custom sizing dies from NOE Molds in .455 and .456. Once all these items arrived, I went back and worked up some prior loads that showed promise and tried them out. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the results and unless I became a better shooter overnight I think this change in loading technique made a difference in how these guns shoot. Your results may vary and any loads I used were safe in my guns. It is your responsibility develop your own loads."

45MAN, my 25-9 in 45 Colt is serial number BFJ7xxx, made in 1990.
A .453" SWC will not go through any of the throats.

Love the 5" barrel and .452 cylinder throats. Indifferent about the bead blast finish. Don't care for the unfluted cylinder. All in all though, I'm seriously jealous that you have a 25-7 and I don't

there ya have it… Wrong again! O Well, Caca Pasa (as we say down here in the borderlands). If it was stainless, it would have been a 625-7.

Nice gun. With that satin finish it just begs to go hunting. I hope it shoots for you as well as my 25-13 mountain gun shoots for me. My hunting load is a 270saa with 9.5gr Unique. Accurate and hard hitting. Pics if it goes after critters
