The wife and I just got a very sad phone call. Our sister in law apparently had some sudden health issues and unexpectedly passed away this morning. Linda had devoted her entire life to caring for her three kids and my wife’s oldest brother who is losing the battle to Alzheimer’s and the effects of agent orange from his time in Viet Nam. Not sure what will happen now with Linda suddenly gone. Fortunately she had recently sold his pick up since he can’t drive but there are still two Harley’s in the garage and two gun safes full of firearms. I kind of got Glen interested in guns years ago and his job allowed him to pretty much buy whatever he wanted. Now it looks like I’ll be helping my niece with that part of the estate. I know Linda had the combos written someplace since I had asked her about them in light of Glens deteriorating mental state. I just hope we can find where she wrote them down when the time comes to deal with disposing of his collection.

Man what a bummer, the suddenness of it is usually the toughest to understand, they are here and fine and then gone. Hopefully a good, new caregiver can be found for him quickly. Your niece is lucky to have someone knowledgeable in firearms to help her out.
Prayers for you and yours from this side of the valley.

Well the wife and I gave been down at her brothers house for the last couple of days to try and give a little relief to jus daughter, our niece. She is trying to navigate the state, the VA, Medicare and a whole host of issues with the sudden passing of her mom and her dads declining mental state. There are two BIG Fort Knox one of which we know the combo to (this one holds 30+ guns) and the second supposedly has 50-60 more handguns. I called the Ft. Knox rep and he said I can order a new key for the dial and if I can get the serial number off the back of the safe, the company can send the combo. The problem is moving g the safe enough to get behind it for the number. The safe is so large and heavy that when tgeh put in new plank flooring Theo went tight up to the safe rather than moving the safe then putting it back on the flooring. This made a 3/8”-1/2” “corral” around the bottom of the safe that won’t let it slide. This one is going to take some creative thinking in the days ahead!
His closet shelves are overflowing with boxes and paperwork for every pistol and revolver which should help when I start selling them for my niece. Rugers, Springfields, Chiapas and who knows what else he has. This does not even touch the knives in the second safe!

I'm sorry to hear of your loss.
Do you know the location of the number? Perhaps you can take a picture of the number with your phone. There are inexpensive fiber optic cameras that attach to a phone. Maybe you could snake that around back to the number.

I took my brother in law up to the VA med center today and when we got back my niece asked if I could start getting an inventory of guns in the one safe. She opened it up and I found 61 handguns and two long guns. Did a quick overview of each gun, made sure it was unloaded and jotted a few notes to start getting lists together for selling. Glen did not have one area of interest like some of us, he just loved buying guns! I found revolvers from Heritage 22's and Ruger Bearcats (even one with adjustable sights!) to Raging Bull 454s, S&W 500 with Ultra dots to DE 50 AE with Barska red dots. There is even a single seven 327and an SP101 327 in there along with a couple Ruger SS DA guns.More M&Ps, XDs, Glocks and 1911s than you can shake a stick at as well. I started getting ideas on prices once I got home and will be listing stuff on the RF over the next few days. I will let you guys know once I get things listed. I think vey few have ever been fired and I think most have the boxes stashed in his closet. And my wife thinks I have lots of guns! I may need some valuation help from you guys on a few guns I can not find any sales numbers on. Engraved Bulldogs with gold bulldog head, SBH with IHMS markings and medallions and stuff like that.
