Always been fond of blades, to put it mildly. Amongst the knives here, 4-5 from Cold Steel. Almost a month ago , I called Cold Steel, now in Arizona and not under Lynn Thompson's direct control. A ripple went thru the blade community when the move went down. I don't know exactly when that was. But called and ordered his/her Mini Tuff Lites, 2. This is not Amazon Prime, the standard 10-14 days time quoted. After 14 days, the wife called and asked, where are they ? Guy actually laughed, said oh, we must have forgot to put the order in. No apology, no I'll upgrade the shipping to overnight, nada, zip, nothing. We are again nearing the end of the 14 day window. If I don't find them in my mail Monday, a call and cancellation to make. Possible that Lynn is a member here.

A email unanswered, and now wife walking around with phone, on hold. The menu click this, click that is endless and no one answers. Before, there was a leave number, they'll call you option. We are not hearing that now. If not inbound now...Grrr !

Wife still on phone, is talking to someone. Order still hasn't been processed. Asked if they would, on their dime, overnite, expedite. NOPE. Asking for refund. They did manage to ding our credit card. To be clear, Cold Steel got sucked into the void, that is GSM Outdoors. Desk weasels and cubicle minions it seems.

It will take 21 BUSINESS days to refund our money. Yup, another month. The 5-6 Cold Steel knives here, will remain at that number. They have lost a customer. They don't care. There are also Kershaws and BenchMades here..hmmnnn...

I quit buying Cold Steel when Lynn used a picture of a plane in the tower to sell knives. I called him out and he came at me like the arrogant child he is. There was recently a video of him, explaining his life's purpose. He said something to the effect "I don't want to be a victim, I want to be able to brag". I then listed my last two Cold Steel brass hilt Tantos, over on Ebay now.

The home/factories of CASE, Ka-Bar, Ontario and several smaller knife makers are 2hrs east of me. A trip into the northern Allegheny Forest scheduled for the coming holiday weekend. A visit to at least one of them, now to be considered. An Uncle long gone now, worked at the CASE factory. Ontario's website, last check, said closed for covid reasons. It and Ka-Bar are in NY state.. tighter covid restrictions and my 'Lil fren" not welcome.

I still have a black bear classic, San Mai trailmaster, and a few others; but I've lost or given away most of my cold steel knives and haven't bought any new ones for years.
With the plethora of knife makers and manufacturers, one can consider service, country of manufacturer, politics, etc in addition to cost and quality.

Traditionally, historically, a "belt" of knife makers from Titusville Penn to Olean and wherever Ontario knives are(nearby)N.Y.. If you like old school, hand made pocket, pen knives, check out Great Eastern Cutlery.

I'm not really "into" knives, but I have a nice Case folder in reserve, behind a well worn mid-size Boker Automat, that is always in my pocket for slashing stretch wrap at work ( & I'm ashamed to say, it's cut off a boat load of plastic & thin metal truck seals, with the serated portion of the blade ) then there is a drawer full of custom made fixed blade knifes I've accumulated over the years, from knife making forum members... I have never had a Cold Steel knife... wore out a Gerber Gator serated before buying my Boker

I carried a recon tanto in many crappy places I deployed to. It and a Randall #7 saw combat and field duty in all four corners of the world. Literally trusted them with my life.
Now I won't buy a Cold Steel. I prefer Mad Dog knives for both their quality and actual utility. Carried one of the early CQB folders in the Middle East and a Frequent Flyer a few times. The Frequent Flyer is military and law enforcement sales only, but was much tougher and truly sharp compared to the zytel knives.
