Back in February, I had a chance to inspect and subsequently buy one of the New Colt Anacondas. After almost 40 years of shunning Colt, this gun was/is a gem. I agree that I'm too OCD about quality. My friends use the term anal. They know me too well to deny it...
I give CZ a lot of credit on this turn around. Can't prove it, but looking a Colts produced after their takeover has been different for me. I swore that I'd buy more if they were of the same quality.
This brings me to a Local Gun Show today. I almost didn't go as prices have been insanely high. But, decided it wouldn't hurt to go look. Surprisingly enough prices were at pre-plandemic levels.
Saw one nice S&W 27 Classic at a fair price. But, the barrel gap was enormous at .013-.015" as I checked all six chambers. I passed and decided it was time to head out.
Then I saw a neighboring vendor sit out a familiar blue box. I had to go see. Doubt there were a dozen revolvers in the show.
He actually let me open the box. Inside was a Beautiful Colt King Cobra Target in 357 Magnum.
As I inspected it, everything about it screamed quality. Much different from the Colts I'd gotten used to seeing 3-4 years back.
Fit on the seams was perfect. As were the screw heads and general fitting of the gun. Barrel gap was .004" on all six chambers. Throats were a snug .358" and polished shiny slick.
Lockup and alignment looked great. I confirmed alignment when I got home.
I'm almost convincible that CZ has brought back quality to the Colt Brand.
For whatever reason, I've been in love with this model for some time. More info to follow and Tim has agreed to post pictures in a bit.
Growing up, I always wanted Colt Revolvers. By the time I could afford them, quality was so poor I passed. It's good to add a couple after all the years and get the quality I am looking for.
I'm impressed!!!

Want to add that Lee's excellent review of the Colt Python 2020 gave me a boost to believe quality was improving.
My shop got a couple of the early guns and they were less than impressive.
I love CZ Products and hope this trend continues. We're really hurting in the selection of quality revolvers these days...

The Czechs certainly know how to make a fine firearm, with both the functional and aesthetic detail you don't see too many others attempting today.
Eagerly awaiting those pics...

Great Choice! I shot a buddy's and it was a very accurate, pleasing revolver. Right funding op come along I will purchase one.

WOW!
Are they making those here or in the Czech Republic? I looked on the Colt website and didn't see it.
I've been trying to ignore that 3", fixed-sight version. A very trusted friend has handled one enough that he has me convinced it's not what I've come to expect of Colt.

It says on the right side of the barrel "Colt's mfg Hartford, CT USA."
I found them on the Colt Site earlier at a MSRP $999.00. This one was actually $100.00 cheaper.
I think they are introducing this gun in 22 Long Rifle. Maybe a future goal...

Not a screaming deal, but not bad in today's world...

I have no serious reason for buying this gun. Just the enjoyment of owning a fine example of a gun.
It will be exactly what it was designed to be, a target gun.
With it's petite size, loads will be kept in the 18-20k psi range with cast bullets. I expect velocities in the 950-1050 fps range with several powders.

Thanks Huey!
I started a thread a while back wanting to know if anybody had any experience with these as I was thinking about one too.
How does the weight compare with the new Python?

I haven't compared them, but assume it's smaller than a Python.
I'm more likely to buy another King Cobra Target in 22 LR than a Python.
But, with the vast improvement in Colt's Quality, you never know...

Now, if they'd make a 32 Magnum or 327 Federal, I'd be a happy camper...
