Nice size for a 44 Mag, at least the way I was using them before I got away from them. The majority of what I shot was the 250 grain 429421 over ten grains of Unique. I think I was hitting right at 1kfps.

Guys, any input on noise from those ports, or similar ones from say MagnaPort? I HATE most ported rifles when in the field especially. Where I hunt it spot and stalk or still hunting - stand hunting doesn’t work, so hearing protection is difficult at best. Obviously at the range I always wear good protection, and indoors I double up plugs with muffs.
That’s a nice gunBTW. Any idea how it stacks up size wise to the SW 69 5 shot 44?

Have the same gun in .41 Magnum in both titanium and stainless...they make an excellent "Special" but if one shoots a lot of Magnum class loads it will hurt you and rattle the the gun... The Ti version is my favorite walking in the woods guns...
As to the ports...no issues for me. Also have several S&Ws and SAs that are ported and they do mitigate muzzle rise...I don't find any extra blast objectionable...YMMV however.
Bob
ps...if you are referring to rifle muzzle brakes...I hate them also...it is even worse for anyone on the sides...

Bob ps...if you are referring to rifle muzzle brakes...I hate them also...it is even worse for anyone on the sides... I will confess a stubborn disdain for ports, and I cannot attribute it to actual experience. I've just avoided them, even though my preferences for guns tends along the lines of very light and very compact. If the recoil or muzzle rise is too much for the gun, I feel I should be using a heavier gun or lighter load. Admittedly, my preferences are odd to many, so my example is likely not to be trusted as something for everyone.
I can imagine that thing's pretty snappy with full-house loads. The only DA in 44 or 41 Mag I've shot is Smith 29s and I didn't find it awful, but it wasn't nearly as pleasant as with a SA, with the "plow-handle grip" and significant mass.
I'm out of the 44 Mag now and completely converted over to 44 Special for my big-bore tools, so I wouldn't be missing a thing shooting one of these.
Is there a S&W frame size the Trackers equate to?

L- or K+...having K and L frame Smiths the Tracker goes right into the same holster that holds a 686. It looks smaller than an L but larger than a K...

Taurus doesn't seem to protect the crowns very well on these guns. Or am I missing something?

Parallaxbill, I believe they’re counterbored through the muzzle brake section. I was thinking the same as you, and then took a closer look. But I don’t own one so we’ll need someone to confirm either way.

I'll look at mine, but I believe the rifling goes all the way to the muzzle...

I believe the first inch or so of the barrel where the porting is located is unrifled.

41 Mag tracker. Click to expand, rifling is full length. It is NOT on my Raging Bulls.

My son has one in titanium. I hate shooting it. Like my sbh shorty a lot better.

Looked yesterday and the rifling on the Tracker goes right to the muzzle... All the loads I shoot from the Trackers are 1100 fps or less. The cylinder is shorter than most, about the same as a FA 97. Load I am carrying in it now is the Accurate Molds 41-215V that has a .37 meplat. www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=41-215VThe 41-250F is the same nose with more shank and will work in both the FA and Tracker. Both cut big nice round holes. Think it is being run with 7 or 8.0 grains of Unique in a .41 Special case. In .44 the 43-325V should work...my friend has that mold and works great in .44 Special loads. www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=43-235V

RJM, how far have you shot those 250 grain 41? I have a 41 mag and was looking for a heavier bullet ( have Lee 195 and 210 molds now) probably not shoot above 1100fps MAX out of 4 5/8” Blkhawk. I like that fat meplat on those boolits. Also do they seem finicky of load length/gun/velocity or pretty tolerant of variables?
I currently am not a good enough handgun shot for long shots, so it wouldn’t really matter, just trying to learn about stability of different designs. Have a M29 I could try the 44 version in as well, currently only have the Lyman semi wad cutter 240gr that does well.
Thx and sorry for drift on the OP topic of Taurus.
