I've a young friend that amongst the guns left to him by passing of my friend, an air rifle. They just moved into a condo, but it has a basement. The guns will be locked away for now. I'd like to look into a pellet trap for him if the basement set up is workable and we can convince Mom..

Bula, condolences o the loss of your friend. And good on you for helping his son. I play with airguns too. A great online source is PYRAMYDAIR.COM. also, AIRGUNS OF ARIZONA. Some great reading and ideas can be found on GATEWAYTOAIRGUNS.ORG, its a fantastic site like this one. Since this is a sixgun site i will say check out the Crosman 1322, i have several, theyre good guns to start youngsters on that want to get into handguns. And they can be modded til your head spins. Mine gives up nothing to a rifle when pumped all the way up, and it SHOOTS. Enjoy the adventure

Thank You. I grew up with and wore out a Crosman760 when they had wood stocks. A Red Rhyder here for out the back window stuff too ! There is a nice scoped pellet rifle of some kind amongst what he was left. I have a Beeman .22 to use with him. In a few years, maybe a Florida iguana safari !

But specifically, hoping for a folding , SAFE, target/trap set-up for his basement.

But specifically, hoping for a folding , SAFE, target/trap set-up for his basement. I used to use one that was a simple frame with a couple of layers of floor carpeting hanging down. No ricochets and much quieter than a metal trap. For short range in a basement ditch the scope and go with a red dot.

When I was a boy my father built a plywood box, the back of which angled in at 45-degrees. The angle was lined with sheet lead. Used it in the basement with a Crossman pellet pistol as practice for the local Bullseye club. Practicality says that there's no reason a double-ply of carpet in front an angled section of heavy (or doubled) plywood wouldn't work just as well. There's probably no reason to go super-heavy on the rear of the box, but it'll make Mom feel a little better.

We get birds here, in the plant, even though everything is screened & closed up tight ( usually come in when trucks are backing in ) are there really any reasonably priced BB guns that are actually accurate enough to hit sparrows at 30 ft consistently... obviously can't shoot anything that would poke holes in the roof

I have a friend that built his for a basement range, Simple 2x4 box on edge with 1/2” plywood back, then filled it with duct seal putty, it has had thousands of pellets and shows no signs of giving up. It is super quiet, more noise from the pellet cutting the cardboard/ target. We play the game battle ship. I shoot a Sheridan Silver Streak w/ Williams Peep.
Google: “Duct Seal Putty pellet trap” there are several diy videos & ideas.
The metal traps are really noisy.

Magnumwheelman, a friend uses a Crosman 2100 with a couple-three pumps to shoot sparrows in the new barn that has a steel roof. Hes shooting bbs, says its plenty accurate for the job

I'm getting the "metal traps are noisy" part. Will re-consider. Have built, as boys a hanger that has indoor/outdoor carpet to deflect slingshot ammo, a trap, many years ago. The portable folding part of the metal traps are what I wanted for them. Maybe add in a layer, panels of carpet, to the steel trap ?

Thanks for the suggestion... it's a food plant, so we really can't have birds in the building... in the past, we could usually get them out... but the sparrows have been particularly pesky this year... just might have to have a "plant BB Gun "

Pellets are easier on tin roofs than steel bb and don't ricochet and bounce as bad, but they are lead so not food safe. The duct seal putty will be the quietist trap and can be as simple as a square box 4 to 6 inches deep filled with putty, and as big as necessary to hold a target, a handle on top makes it easy to move. Multiple bull targets are best as it spreads the shooting over a broader area. Pack the putty in tight and rearrange as needed.

it's an insulated building, so as long as they don't poke holes in the insulation blankets they put over the frame, before they put the steel roof down
