Went Chuck hunting today & he embarrassed me pretty bad! We got a total of 18 Chucks, 14 for him & 4 for me, he was lighting them up & at one time went 10 straight with his Contender 204. The first 2 he got was with my Buckeye 32-20 at 50 & 54 yds. Good shooting for a cross eyed biscuit eater. Then we drove 4-5 miles to a better spot & he was on fire, even though it was windy & they were keeping their heads down. We were shooting over the hood of my Jeep & he got on a roll & I just had him keep shooting. Finally he missed & I got a chance to jump in for a few shots (4) and I got 4 Chucks & then he took over again & punished them pretty hard. As usual we couldn't remember where all of them were, plus some slid back down their holes. You can see that some are this years pups & some are real whoppers. I shot my four with my XP100 221 Fireball using 40 gr VMax bullets & it popped them pretty good. When they are sitting on a Lava rock & you hit them just right they can go for a pretty good ride! Good buddy Ken O'Neill called this spot "Rock Chuck Central" one year when he almost melted his barrel down, fun stuff! Dick

THAT XP-100 MAKES ME WANT TO TAKE THE 17" 17 REM BARREL OFF OF MINE AND PUT THE ORIGINAL 10" FIREBALL BACK ON IT.
BE THANKFUL FOR THE LITTLE CRITTER OPPORTUNITIES YOU GUYS HAVE, GREAT FUN.

Thanks for going with me today. It was the first chance to shoot since last July. It took me a couple shots to get used to Dicks gun, then it got way better. The rest of my shots were with a 204 Encore that I’ve only shot enough times to sight it in a couple of years ago. All of our shots were verified by the other person watching with binoculars. We normally need to chew sunflower seeds, but today due to our diets we never even opened the bag of seeds. One of Dick’s shots sent the chuck flying into the air in a 10 foot summer salt. This was without a doubt the best day I’ve ever had shooting chucks. As you can see all the rocks in the field. That’s why we know there rock chucks. Thanks Dick for a fun day in the worlds largest playground.

.... As you can see all the rocks in the field. That’s why we know there rock chucks. Thanks Dick for a fun day in the worlds largest playground. Looking beyond the fence line, you just KNOW that ag land was once just as littered with rocks. I can't begin to imagine what it was like for somebody(s) to clear all that and make it tillable.
