Homemade Python hunter. I bought the Python at Bootie's pawn shop in the mid eighties for 275. I went to the CADA gun show one year and got the scope for two hundred. Add a 45 dollar set of Millet rings and voila. What, don't ALL Pythons have gold triggers?

A few that come to mind
A Finnish M39 Mosin in great condition for 400. I knew it was special when I was checking it over but didn't know anything about it at the time. It was gone when I went back for it.
A Romanian M44 Mosin that some guy at a gun show just wanted to get rid of. Has it marked for 325 and said he would take 275. It was a first year production which they only made like 2000 the first year. Once again, knew it was special but didn't realize what I was looking at. Looked it up a few days after the show and kicked myself for not pulling the trigger.
A Swiss K31 for sale for $60 because it was missing a magazine. I figured there was no way Id ever find a magazine for it. Now the magazines can be had for $50
Passed on an early Linebaugh which still haunts me. Guy wanted 1700

A 5 1/2" barrel Redhawk in 44mag for $800, at the time I didn't think I needed a 5th 44 mag, but now...

Never look back because whoever is after you could be gaining on you.

Large frame Whitney-Kennedy in 40-65 with an old unmarked tang sight and the serpentine lever. Had about 30% finish left on the outside but the bore was excellent, whoever had owned it used it a ton and took fantastic care of it. A real hunters rifle. The thing fit me like a good shotgun too. It was $800 and I had about $850 to my name at that point. Should have found a way to make it happen.

In 1962 I walked in the doors of the Frankfurt Auto Show and setting on a rotating table was a Ferrari 250 GTO for about $20,000. I was a little short. I believe one sold at auction recently for about $70,000,000. I was even shorter.

Should have bought PALLETS of milled Bulgarian Arsenal SLR-95's for $299ea in the mid-late 90's.
I was minutes away from landing a full stainless Searcy double rifle (reportedly one of two in existence at the time and not the ported one that can be found with an image search online) in 470NE a few years back.
I'm sure there are a couple others I'm forgetting, but those stand out as the biggest missed opportunities.
Oh well... Shoulda-coulda-woulda
One day I'll land something which has a barrel I can warm up at a range, until then, I can dream and enjoy the BB guns in my safe.

Right before Marlin went under one LGS got in a new 444 and another got in a dark series 45-70. I was pretty happy with my levers at the time so I bought neither thinking they’d be available for a while. Man how wrong I was about that. Both were priced at retail too
