For Mechanism the Super Redhawk is superior. However, I love the looks and handling of the Redhawk. I have had multiple examples of Redhawks over the years but sold for various reasons. I purchased my current Redhawk a couple of years back and sent it to Jack Huntington for an action job and his frame modification. The action is now perfect in both DA and SA and with his frame modification it is easy to shoot, even with 320 grain WFNs at 1400 fps.

I really want to take a SRH Alaskan and do the 5-shot .45 GP conversion by Bowen. Best of both worlds...

I carried my early 357 Redhawk this morning deer hunting but never saw a deer. I have full confidence that within bow hunting range I can easily drop any whitetail that comes along. The problem is....they aren't coming along.

The problem is....they aren't coming along. Proper bullet selection is the key to 357mag deer hunting. I don't use jacketed bullets, so can't really say what ones are best. I use a wide flat nose or Mr Keith's swc and have seen no real difference on deer. Hit them right, they fall over dead as fast as anything else. I just have an easier time hitting them right at normal Eastern woods ranges with the 357 than with the big bores.

I have some 170 gr Keith type SWC I might load for my M27 Smith.

The Redhawk main spring does two functions, and if you put a lighter spring, or cut some coils off to get a better single action trigger pull, you are sooner or later, gonna have some primers that won't go off! Ask me how I know! The Super Redhawk has two separate springs, one for the hammer, and the trigger spring is a separate spring! No contest between the two! Super Redhawk hands down!

There's more to tuning a Redhawk than springs
