Usually this happens to Utah fisherman trying to find a secret "honey hole" that nobody else knows about! This time it was a woman trying to "fish" for her cell phone.  Dick |

Billy was an 80 year old member of our hunting club. One morning he ran to the campfire where we were sitting and yelled that his coat had fallen into the outhouse hole and he needed some help getting it out. I said let it go Billy that coat is ruined. He said I know that but I had a biscuit in the coat pocket and I want that biscuit!

I've heard stories of old outhouse floors collapsing like John mentioned,, but never knew of one directly. Dick,, I'm sure that woman was married to a Utah fisherman!  |

Trust me guys, after running a septic pumping and portable business for 22 years, it DOES happen! You guys get bored some day just ask me about a couple of incidents and you will be laughing for more than a few minutes.

I'm going to tell one our high school superintendent told a group of us once. It was back when he was working his way through college & he had a summer time job working for the US Forest Service where him & a buddy had the unpleasant job of cleaning public campgrounds & outdoor restrooms/outhouses.
The 2 of them came up with an idea of wiring in a remote controlled speaker into the women's outhouse so they could turn it on at the "correct time. So on the appointed day the targeted lady goes in and they wait a few seconds & then a voice down in the hole comes on and says, HEY you're getting me all wet down here!! It took about 3 seconds for that door to go blasting open & that woman come running out of there with her pants down screaming.
They were parked down the road and they said they were scared to death they were going to get caught but the woman & her husband must have just kept driving!

Lots of "pranks" as well as actual incidents are sure to surface!

Our camp, has a 2-holer and so does my families camp, due to it having been the school house for folks living on top of the mountain, above Sheffield Penn.. Our camp has a neat fabricated tool with a kinda perforated scoop on the end. For that kinda fishing. Whenever I take someone up who has never used an outhouse, I warn them to take pants up and down while turned 90 degrees. Someone had to rescue a wallet years ago.

We were forced to pour a pad with a pumpable tank underneath the outhouse. The honey dipper dude would no longer pump the hole, legalities caught up to us. New camp building has indoor plumbing and full septic system now. Both are in use now.

All I’m saying is the isn’t a phone worth the fishing expedition.
I know a few people who dropped their phone in regular toilets, after business was done but before flushing and had to clean the mess up. Bad enough but dang.

Not long after I bought the pump business I finally got to where I carried a little flip phone. Naturally it fell into the bottom of a tank as I was reaching in with the stir stick to get the sludge from one of the far corners. A little judicious work with the stir stick and out it came. Hosed it off right quick, headed to dump the truck then back to the shop. Once there it got a good wipe down, out came the micro screwdriver set and apart it came. About 10 minutes later it was dried out with the heat gun, wiped down with disinfectant wipes and turned back into. Hot dog! It still worked so back in the pocket it went and I wisely kept its little swim a secret between me and the phone since my wife is a science teacher/germaphobe.
I did tell her about it years later after the statute of limitations ran out!

Hence, the scoop tool. Kinda a longer version of the scoops used when ice fishing. The phone is one thing, the need to recue part now, is the sim card.
