I wouldn’t and I cut everything up…. Ive got the same pistol and have thought if I could find a .22lr cylinder Id have it rechambered to .327. seems like the cylinders are not easily exchanged... unlike the simple removal of cylinder and crane on SW or charter arms for example. but if you are making it a long term switch maybe its not so bad, or maybe I am just a clutz and couldn't figure out an easy way to switch cylinders somewhere I do have an extra DW stainless 2 or 22 mag cylinder I picked up years ago.

I have been a long time fan of the .32 S&W Long and .32 H&R Mag. I have had several different platforms over the years. Those two cartridges did EVERYTHING that I wanted and needed from a .32. As Brian Pearce has pointed out many times in his several excellent articles in Handloader, the S&W Longs and .32 H&R in a strong handgun, will safely and long term give you up to 1300 fps without issue. Plus, and this is truly important to me, the light target loads in both the Long and H&R Mag, will shoot with great accuracy without issue and with small SD without worrying about powder position. On the other hand, the .327 Federal exhibits wide velocity swings in the shorter cases with problems with accuracy. Plus, when hunting, and I have used my .32's a LOT in the field for edible small game without destroying my hearing with one shot without hearing protection.
I am a big fan of the .32 H&R brass from Starline - brass life is LONG and as far a I am concerned, my opinion only, there is NO WAY I would damage the true shooting ability of that O.P.'s fine Dan Wesson.
One caveat, I am a primarily a shooter, and not a collector...
Now, my very good friend, The Green Frog, will heartily disagree with me on the above, but we will still remain VERY GOOD FRIENDS! (:>))

Honestly I've never changed one so this is good to know...

There is a small spring when removing the crane that gets away from a lot of folks. My gunsmith called and said he was lost as to what happened when he disassembled. I told him about the missing spring and then all was good.
Forewarned is forearmed.
