Please take the time to read this and reflect on this man's service to his country. Debbie and I met David and his newly wed wife at the General Mitchell motel in Hatteras Village in 1983 on our first visit to the Outer Banks. We met them on the beach while watching the 4th of July fireworks. We later moved back to.the motel and sat outside their room which was just a couple of rooms down from ours. We drank beer and discussed world events when he told us he was vacationing with his new bride while awaiting orders from Washington to his next mission. He had just returned from Lebanon and was quite shaken from what he had experienced. He and his wife were so nice and friendly. I just googled his name and found this article that I felt compelled to share with my friends. Humbling for sure.
All too many Vets do not know about things available to them. Or,, even if they have heard about things,, have a hard time figuring out the "system."
Good to know the Col was able to get it figured out. 37 years as a soldier,, says a LOT in itself.

I served with a senior (Army) NCO who was stationed at the barracks in Beirut when it was attacked. He and another NCO alternated making mail runs every other day. That particular day, it was his turn to remain at the barracks while the other NCO made the mail run. However, the other NCO was sick and asked him to switch, so he could remain in bed. While he was gone to pick up the mail, the terrorists struck. The other NCO was one of those killed in the suicide bombing. When I served with him several years later, he still could not discuss that day without breaking down. I hope that he received counseling for the trauma that he experienced, but that wasn't really offered at that time.
