Mr. Bradshaw, I know you have EXTENSIVE experience in blasting and thank you for sharing your experiences. "Safety" may seem slow, but to quote the Army saying... Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. I will take safety and move a little slower in anything I do. Hence why I have never flipped a tractor or any other piece of heavy equipment I have operated. And I have operated antique hydraulic winch reel dozers and never over spun the winches. Completely agree with your last sentence.

Sigh..When I've participated in Force-on-Force training, real guns and knives come off. Airsoft guns and rubber blades go on. Even back-up weapons. THEN we all check each other, pat down. Leave no room for error. Amen! All of the force on force training I’ve taken has been very very strict. I bet this was caused by non-gun people being careless

I have now heard from two sources that there had been recreational shooting on the site in days prior. If so that means live ammo was brought on site by someone. That could explain a lot of unanswered questions.

Here’s an idea, don’t make/use prop guns that fire standard ammunition. I thought they developed an 8mm or some other oddball caliber blank cartridge long ago?

In the sport of Fast Draw we consistently break a 4 inch dart balloon at 15 feet with a .45 Colt caliber black powder blank. At close range this would kill. A story of Steve McQueen destroying a movie camera on set of WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE when they told him to shoot at the camera with a full load 5-in-1 movie blank.

gents, careful how you couch what you say here - as the person having done the shooting is decidedly to one side politically - anything perceived as having political leanings - intended as humorous or not, can net you a "hall monitor" visit and/or threat - unless you're one of the sacred cows.
almost like being a part of the "cancel culture"

Not here. David Bradshaw

Sorry guys, but I'm a little blunt. Agree, this isn't about and shouldn't be about politics. There's more than a few things that bother me however.
1) I don't believe anybody is dumb enough not to know the difference in a loaded round and a blank. 2) Don't understand live ammo even being on the set. 3) Don't trust anyone on Earth enough to point a gun that I didn't check at anyone or anything. 4) Had I previously been "Target Shooting," I'd be even more careful, not less.
The list goes on, but there's no point. A few claim to be Hollywood Savvy and try to explain this. But, guns, automobiles, etc are constants that physics don't exempt. If you get shot or run over on the set the results are the same as if you're in a hunting camp or The Streets of Chicago.
Anyways, just my opinion...

I went to my 1st mounted cowboy shoot several years ago... coincidentally I was sitting in the stands with the rest of the spectators ( with my lil snubbie 45 Colt on my belt, under a western shirt )... they put a bunch of balloons on poles, & proceeded to ride past us in the stands, shooting directly at us, trying to pop the balloons that were placed in between the riders & the audience...
the audience loved it... I did not... sitting on the bench, with the same type of gun they were using, thiers loaded with 45 basics, loaded with coarse black powder, & star crimped on the end... mine of course were loaded for self defense... my wife & I after a short discussion about safety, actually got up & moved to a spot with no balloons in front of us
afterwards I talked to one of the shooters, who gave me a fired case, & explained that they could only use the cartridges given to them right before their ride, & you could not use your own cartridges... I was somewhat relieved, they at least "had" a safety program, but told them I would choose to sit where there were no targets in front of me, as I would take my own safety into my own hands... they said that people loved getting right behind the balloons... guessing those people were not knowledgeable shooters...

Great reference, tree versus car. My money's on tree every time.

There's many times I am in a vehicle with other people. Quite often they tell me it's clear to pull onto the highway. But, can't do it without looking for myself.

I might look, but I always lean back to make sure I am not obstructing the drivers view. Only took a few taps from my ol’ mans knuckle to teach me to keep my “big head” outta the way.

I was trying to sell a revolver on consignment at a local shop. After a while I decided to pick it up and keep it. When I picked it up the owner handed it to me and said “it’s empty “ so I went ahead and checked it anyway. Because everyone that touches it should.
Growing up, just saying a gun is unloaded when handing it to another was a no no! Even if you checked it. I was told that it nurtured complacency. My 2 pennies.

I won’t be surprised at all if they place all the blame on Pietta and sue them into bankruptcy like they did Bushmaster.
