I’m looking at a cimarron new sheriff in .45 colt. I have wanted a colt sheriff for a long time but the prices are just to high for me to use as a rough carry gun for the outdoors, especially the .45 colt models. I own a early open top navy by uberti that I dearly love and it’s been nothing but reliable and accurate, but I haven’t used it hard. the price of the new sheriff is under 500 and it looks like a real nice piece I’m looking for any experience with one, the basics reliability etc. figure 20000 psi loads for the upper end? I would like a Ruger montado but those are scarce and up near a grand. The price of the cimarron is a big part of going that route but I want to be able to carry and use it. I believe these are built on the old model without the safety hammer and the 4 click action? Thanks for any feedback good or bad.

Never owned a sheriff model but limit the clones I have to the 14,000psi loads. A 255 rnfp @ 950 punches right through a deer.

The Uberti Guns are excellent as a rule. I have a number of them and find they are underrated in quality.
You'll be fine with 20-21k Loads. Those guns are available in 45 ACP, so that answers that question.
The guns are more accurately described as replicas than clones. The cylinders are larger and stronger than the Colts. I load mine as I do the Ruger Midframe Flattops.
Brian Pearce has published this as well. Very few people I trust more about providing accurate information and data that he does...

Amen to all of this!! And especially to the clone/replica idea.

I have no idea what "using it hard" or "too expensive to use as a rough carry gun for the outdoors" means to you The Uberti and Pietta sixguns are of excellent quality. Fit and finish are fine. Every Italian replica, well over two hundred I have experienced have been excellent shooters. BUT cheap is always too expensive. If you want a .45 for hard outdoor use the only choice is a Stainless Steel Ruger.

Thankyou for all the replies. Maybe I’ll keep my eye out a little longer for a stainless Ruger with a similar barrel length and style. The montado is high on the list but it may be awhile. I will say the fit finish and overall quality does appear very high on the replicas coming from uberti, they offer a lot for the price.

Ive carried a blued om blackhawk for 40 years nearly everyday working cattle and horses. It shows its age, but you don't need stainless if you take care of it

Can always go with a Ruger Vaquero/New Vaquero and add a Super Blackhawk hammer which is the same size and shape as the Montado only it is serrated instead of checkered. And a whole lot cheaper than a Montado hammer. My only Ubertis are black powder, but they have excellent fit and finish. Wouldn’t mind a Uberti Bisley or Schofield one day.

Have this build lined out with Dave Clements. It'll probably start this Spring...

My om has ears that I thought about using. My only flat top is a mint 3 digit sn that's not going to be messed with. I was thinking dual cylinders too. Schofield and 460 Rowland.
