So, while I was down in the Shenandoah Valley and up and over the Blue Ridge , to Moss Winery for a great nephews wedding, adventures survived at camp. At camp in Elk Co Penn, the gang were bowhunting deer. Saturday am found 4-5 guys out in tree stands. The storm found them them there. A tornado dropped down into our acreage. Two of the guys were forced to jump from their stands and run a bit, find and hug some low ground. Another..not so lucky. It hit him fast, ran him down. Tree, tree stand and him plowed over and down. They found him unconscious under the debris. An hour drive to nearest hospital. My 1st text said he'd been listed "critical". A later text told me that'd he'd had a cat scan...and not having any cats they released him later last eve.. Am still awaiting news of other injuries or camp damage. Be careful out there ! If I hadn't been at the wedding...

Wow, we had a small twister pass just over us here in camp Friday evening. The rain hit hard and the trees were bent over about 90° to the left andbranches were fallingon the cook shack roof. We were contemplating making a run from the cook shack to a culvert. Then the trees bent over 90°to the right. After a bit the heavy rain stopped and left us with a light sprinkle.

Wow! That is crazy. I was hunting yesterday. The bad weather didn’t here until later in the evening. By then, I was safely at home.

No tornadoes here but the wind was pretty rank here in KY yesterday too. I was on top of a knob in a ladder stand and believe me, I was talking to that tree telling it to be strong.

Here's hoping your hunting buddy will be fine & recover completely! It can happen anytime,, anywhere. This story brought to mind a deer season many, many years ago. We'd set up a camp to deer hunt. We had deer stands out. When Thanksgiving came around,, we all left,, & went to dinner. One of my buddies came to my home,, & we all enjoyed dinner. Back in camp that evening. It had come up a heavy rain & wind storm on Thanksgiving afternoon, but not severe. The next morning,, my buddy slipped into the woods towards his stand. He couldn't find it. He sat down,, awaiting dawn. When it got light,, he quietly went to looking for his tree. As he stood by a downed tree,, looking around,, it dawned on him,, THAT downed tree was THE tree his stand was in. He found his destroyed stand under it. Had he not come to dinner & stayed to hunt,,,,

Gosh that would scare me to death being in a tree in a storm! Praying for your friends quick recovery!

Was bow hunting out of a tree stand on Bois Blanc Island in the Straits of Mackinaw. Was setting in a Oak that was a good 24” in diameter. About a hour before dark a storm blew threw and I got out because the tree was rolling back and forth 6-8 inches 16’ up. That night the news reported 75-80 mile gusts at the Mackinaw Bridge! You can see the Bridge from the beach in front of the cabin. Three tree blew down over the drive! Had to chain saw our way out to the road !
