629-4 S&W mountain gun
+1. Then send it to Nelson Ford for a 210 dollar action/trigger job.

629-3 S&W mountain gun and only because that happened to be what was in the case at the LGS. It is fed a diet of Keith loads, not full-tilt.

629-4 Classic 6½" for me. Recent enough to have the strengthening package and old enough to have some good F&F. Shoots nearly every load into monotonous, tiny groups, too. If I didn't also have a 4" 29-2, I might prefer the Classic in the 5" to split the difference, but it would have to be as accurate as this 6½.

Well guys, You have me rethinking things. And one thing for sure, the N frame Smith's are much easier to come by, The Colt is as big as the Blackhawk, ! The Super Blackhawk is just to big, Can't see me ever being able to hold that thing steady. The L frame, seems to be pretty popular here. As for purpose, I just want one ! I might Just send my 7.5 inch Bisley off to Bowen for his Bisley PKG, and a few other things. I am accumulating the funds now ! ...tj

My favorite for carrying (and it gets carried quite a bit). Redhawk Kodiak. Finding the right grip mde it downright enjoyable to shoot. Action job by Jack Huntington

I only have one. I wouldn’t say I own it - I’m just the caretaker for it. My grandfathers M29-2 6”. It’s beautiful and mechanically great as a revolver, but priceless as a firearm.
I’m a huge Ruger fan, but in the world of DA .44s…S&W is my gold standard.

My go to 44 mag is a Ruger Redhawk. I have had both 7.5” and 5.5”. My current do everything gun is a 5.5” stainless Ruger Redhawk tuned by JRH Custom including his grip frame mod.
I love the Redhawk and it has treated me well but if I am being honest my grail DA 44 mag is a 4” Bowen Super Redhawk Alaskan GP-44 mag with an SP profile barrel.

I do have a 4.2" Ruger Redhawk in 45 Colt that is a great shooter even with heavy hunting loads. I would expect the more common 44 Magnum version would be and excellent choice.

My favorite - 2.75" S&W M69 (5 shot L Frame) . . Paul How close is this to being your favorite handgun? You seem to be quite fond of the Model 69. You review made me by mine.

+1 on the M69 23/4" bbl . Bought one of these recently to carry around the ranch and it has worked out better than expected . Have been carrying it around in a Diamond "D" chest rig mostly .

I’ve owned several DA revolvers over the years. The only .44 that has stuck around is a 4” 629 Mountain Gun that is really way more accurate than it should be.
