I Do not own a DA 44 mag. of any stripe ,now But I do have 2 Super blackhawks. And really do not need a double action, 44. But who cares I would like to get one. I have had several model 29,s Like them pretty well, but don't think that is the rout to take. Not interested in a Taurus. So we are down to The Anaconda and the Red Hawk. I did have a 7.5 inch redhawk with a scope, for a while, Just to awkward for me, I think a 5.5 or a 4 " would be les muzzle heavy and More comfortable to shoot. I am leaning to the Ruger, cause for the price of the Colt I could buy the Ruger and be half way to an excellent tune up by a top smith. Your thoughts would be appreciated. ...tj

My only DA 44 Magnum is a S&W 69 4.2" barrel. Love it for easy packing...

Purely subjective. You want a thoroughbred or draft horse? If I wanted a double-action sixgun to carry anywhere in any kind of weather and always come up shooting it would be a 4 inch Redhawk. If I want the lightest possible .44 Magnum that was still shootable it would be the Model 69. If I want a thoroughbred work of art it would be a four-inch Smith & Wesson, and I would choose one of my pre-29s. I have all three of the guns mentioned so I don't have to make a choice just choose which one I need at the time.

My current top three double actions from most favorite to least... S&W 629 vcomp performance center 5" version (special run) with trigger job, S&W 69 4.2", Ruger Redhawk. All are good worthy firearms.
The Redhawk is strong, accurate, and has a decent trigger. I just don't like how it handles as well. It does have the longer barrel so that may be part but not all of it.
My next DA .44 mag will likely be a 6" Anaconda; but it really won't do anything that one I already have won't.
I'd try to handle and shoot your top choices to narrow it down if you can.

I always gotta ask, what is your intended use ? I had a RH with a dot sight years ago. I shot it no better than the SBH that belt carried MUCH better, so it went. I've shot a bunch of M29's and 629's owned by friends. I had a 4" M69 and traded it for the 2.75" that I just ordered a Hi-Viz front sight for 20 minutes ago. I WISH I'd kept the 4". It's a need both thing I found !

My favorite is the 29/629 from the early to mid 90s. I picked up a 629-4 8 3/8s standard barrel right after I got into revolvers. I pounded out rounds from this thing until I was regularly hitting half scale turkeys at 75yds offhand with full power loads nonetheless. It is such a smooth accurate gun, it would be foolish to ever get rid of it. Actually I added numerous 29/629 guns to my collection because of this first experience. I’d say I have at least 10 in different dash variations and barrel lengths.
I did have a 4 inch 69 too but I sent it down the road. I found I liked the 3” 629 better

Over the years, I‘ve owned the DW, Anaconda, 29, 629, RH, and SRH DA’s. My favorites are 5‘‘ and 6.5‘‘ 629‘s from the 1990-91 period. Good interchangeable front sights, perfect triggers, full endurance packages, scope-base ready, and adequate weight with the full underlug. As John says, though, it depends on your intended use and personal requirements.

My 2 cents: I have or had many Smith and Ruger 44s. Now just for a packin gun, and very accurate, the L frame Model 69 4.25" barrel. It outshoots most of my 29s. It's nice to pack an L frame 44 at this point in time in my life.

I love how the N frame S&W looks, but my hand just doesn't fit right, even with several different grips...
So, my choice has been the S&W 69. I have the snubby version; 2.75" barrel.

I guess since it is the only DA 44 mag I own, it would have to be this one. In fact, it is the only 44 mag DA I have ever owned! The rest have al been 41s or 45 Colts.
