To me, that first batch of "Brazilians" that S&W made are the best of the lot of 1917's. The squared rear sight and top strap are far better than the original guns.
Nice grips!!

I loves the "Brazilians". The wartime collectors have long looked down on them but they have their own peculiar history of export, reimport and are in far fewer numbers than the wartime guns. Cool ! Don't be afraid of trying it without the Wondersight. not target guns either way but can be quite capable . Yeah , The factory shaped grips are marginal at best . I using a Magna shaped grip on mine and it is at least OK.

A Wondersight looks interesting. How did they attach them and why did they add them on? To make them adjustable?
Prescut

A local NC gun shop had two of these available at what I thought were fair prices but lack of funds made me pass either of them by. I assume they are gone but I still lack the funds. That's the only thing about retirement that sucks.

Thats really cool Tink! Ive never seen a “Wonder sight” before let alone a brass pin in the front in that configuration. Thats pretty neat! Oh and really nice job on the grip you made for it!
Im not the S&W guru, is that 1917 a 45 acp?

Im not the S&W guru, is that 1917 a 45 acp? Yes, both Colt and S&W Model 1917s are .45 ACP. Going into WW1 they couldn't produce enough 1911s, so the 1917s were a 'Second Standard' to make up the shortfall.

Still, really nice gun you got there. Now tell us about the style of match (ASI) you plan to shoot that ole gal in Tink. I have a S&W 625 JM that I shot in competition, so I can appreciate the moon clips....I enjoyed them! Lol

ASI is for Action Shooting International. These are relaxed matches where the point is to test yourself and have fun rather than win. They don't even post results at the match, and there are no prizes. It's a good time. Last one I shot was with a Webley Mk.1.
