I have here a old box with the FA-260grain J-FP Bullets, my LEE BHN test says 10,4 BHN and that isn't really hard.

On another forum we once discussed this bullet along with photos of those recovered and what I got from the post was that there seemed too be varying degrees of hardness with different lots of FA`s bullets.. May be wrong but the pictures showed a different story... wish I had access to that post.

What bullet or boolit was Dick Casull using when working up his triplex loads to 1800-2000fps?

I'd never have associated Hunter S. Thompson with Freedom Arms 454! You learn something new everyday!

Mr. Bradshaw, I HAVE to get you on the phone some day. I probably wont even have a competent list of questions to ask, but just start talking, I want to listen and interject my questions from there.

I used that 300 gr. Sierra bullet that 45 Man mentions, at around 1500 fps on an african lion. The one shot did a masterful job. Used it on various other animals over the years to my complete satisfaction. Used the Hornady 300 gr. XTP @ 1380 fps and the Magnum XTP @ 1500 fps, but both can be explosive if shot too close.

While the photo looks posed, I suspect that, a second to two later, the writing machine was killed beyond repair. The brilliantly engineered IBM Selectric must represent the Tiger Tank of typewriters. Heavy, precise, probably far more reliable than the German tank. The personal computer doomed the smooth Selectric, and manual typewriters with it. Once they forget how to make a manual transmission, it’s hard to bring it back. David Bradshaw
DAN: MY NEXT RELOADING PROJECT IS SOME PULLED 300gr SWIFT A-FRAMES IN CASULL CASES OVER 25.5grs OF 2400 (BEARSKINNER's LOAD). IN MY FA 8 3/8ths" STALKERS I SHOULD BE IN THE 1,400's, BUT IN MY 10 INCH AND 12 INCH FA REVOLVERS I MAY BE IN THE 1,500's. IF I CAN GET THIS GOING SOON I HOPE TO USE THEM THIS DEER SEASON. WILL ALSO LOAD SOME 300gr XTP MAGS WITH THE SAME POWDER CHARGE FOR PRACTICE ROUNDS.
I know you can get more power out of the 454 round, but when I started testing for accuracy 30 years ago, I loaded cases every .5 grain of powder. ( tried 296 & 2400) Shooting off a rest, 3 round groups, I watched the groups shrink, then start opening up. I settled on the best accuracy in my 454’s. I need all the help I can get, so starting with an accurate load under ideal conditions, helps keep you on target, when things are not so perfect. An added plus is even though this load has killed Cape buffalo, Yukon moose, American bison, African lion, etc, you can get back on target fairly quickly for fast, accurate, follow ups. Just my humble opinion.

Too bad Hunter is gone. He was one of a kind....... From what little I know of the man, yes he was. A little "out there" but I bet way cool to hang out with. Probably couldn't keep a straight face around him.
