Had my Ruger #1 30-30 Win out shooting today. It did pretty well with jacketed bullets, but need to do some load development.
Had some Chey-Cast Coated Cast Bullets I recently grabbed from Grafs. So, I decided to give them a go.
After chamfering the cases, loading was accomplished the same as jacketed bullets. Some bullets require belling the brass a little, these did not.
Over Unique, the groups stayed under 2" at 100 yards. Loads were under max using Lyman's Data. Velocity was right about 1500 fps.
This gun might just become allocated for cast bullets only. Bullets are cheap and a pound of powder goes a long ways.

I rarely shoot jacketed bullet in my 30/30, cheap fun for pennies a shot.

Interesting... I have a Martini carbine in 30-30, that I haven't had the time to shoot much... thinking cast bullets for that gun... top rifle in the picture is my 30-30 Martini carbine

I've got several kinds of 30 Caliber Cast Bullets hoarded back. Think I'll give them all a try.
Like Fowler said, pennies a round. Will be interesting to learn about and probably useful for smaller critters.

I only use cast in the 30-30. My favorite bullet is the 311041 powder coated weighing in a 178 grains. I cull my bullets pretty hard. If they dont weigh 178.(something) they get culled. A mid range jacketed charge of 3031 or IMR 4895 doesn't seem to matter in my rifle. 3.5 inches at 100 yards is acceptable for me. Good luck ever stopping a bullet inside a critter unless you are after elk or moose. Many a hog has succumbed to the lowly lead bullet on my ranch!

My 30/30 is a Contender Carbine. Not nearly as classy as a No.1, but it's about 6# with the scope and the single most enjoyable gun to shoot that I own. It's never seen a jacketed bullet and it never fails to make me feel good about my shooting. I've not gotten the chance to shoot it at 100 yards, but it stays right at or in half an inch at 50.
"Pennies to shoot:" $20/# Unique (7.5 grains) and $22/k small rifle powders and some brass probably as old as I am, with cast bullets is indeed cheap to shoot. I have two bullets I use for it; a 165 grain RDO, last version, and a LEE C309-113RF that I removed the gas check shank from - and now weighs 118 grains. Ive also filled the case almost full with IMR 4350 under the 165, but haven't chronographed it. I'm eager to try a full charge of H335 some day too, but 7 to 7.5 grains of Unique shoots so well that I pretty much stick with that, at least for fun.
I'm not just chiming in to brag about MY gun because you mentioned yours, but to share just how much enjoyment the 30/30 gives with cast. I don't feel guilty enjoying shooting for FIVE CENTS per round when many are paying several dollars per round, because a lot of those folks look down their noses at the 30/30 and cast bullets - and anything without laser-like trajectory and screaming velocities. I get more joy out of shooting this rifle than any higher-dollar, higher-velocity gun/round I've ever owned.
I have to imagine doing it using a No.1 has to just add that much more pleasure to the program.
ENJOY!
EDIT: My pics came out messed up. I'll resolve that and repost them.
OK, here they are. These are not "wallet groups," not the best , not the worst, just the way this thing shoots.

Heck, a lot of people look down on the 30-30 Win in general. I still like the old rounds.
I just can't transition into the plastic guns. Give me a Falling or Rolling Block and I'm happy...

I am envious of that No. 1 and I'm sure I'd shoot it the same way.
I've been toying with the idea of adding a 375 Winchester to this action for the sole purpose of hooting it like a 38-55 WCF with cast. The 30/30 has been so much fun that I'm getting really tempted.
