Vance, what an accomplishment! It’s going to be hard to top that hunt, but it’ll be fun trying. A bull moose with a revolver in a dream hunt. Congrats!!! Thanks Kim! Definitely a dream come true for me. And indeed it will be fun seeing whats next. Hopefully in a couple years I will be using one of your blades to dress another critter taken with the revolver or Encore. It would be wonderful to dress a brown bear with one! You, like James, are another individual who has been an inspiration & without even knowing it a long distance mentor for many, many years. Thank you. Vance, it would be cool knowing one of my knives skin’t a brown bear. I only know one person that’s killed a brown bear and owns one of my knives - he says it’s to pretty to use. I won’t dime him out, he knows who he is😜.

On this moose I used a brand new Knives Of Alaska "Alpha Wolf". I liked it but would have liked a bit more blade.

Vance, what I did to have a couple custom ( working) knives made to my design, with a knife maker. I had the blade design I wanted, traced it out, to the length and width I wanted. I found a grip design that felt perfect, figured out the transition finger guard, while doing this with the knife maker. I also went for ugly on purpose, had the whole thing bead blasted, including the black micarta grips. It is absolutely non slip. The blade part was easy, it was nice to handle the makers knives to find the grip that felt perfect, then had her make my knife with that specific grip feel.

Bear skinner, I'd love to see a picture of your custom knife. Sorry for the thread drift.

The wood gripped knife ( was red rose wood) has been used so much, and resharpened so much it’s 3/8” shorter. A 40 year old LaDuke. The Lynn knife (Dawson family, Arizona) I picked up one at a show, picked a nice palm swell grip, had her make it a bit larger, and used a similar blade off her Hunter model added to the grip. Extra heavy serrations on spine for thumb, then rough bead blasted for a total non slip grip, under all circumstances. It is a Right handed knife as well, due to palm swell. It’s ugly, and a smaller usable size, but fits my hand perfectly. If it feels good, it works good.

Thanks for the pictures, I like it. I've been working on a knife design, but it always seems to be too big for actual use.

I am a KnifeWhore as well as a GunWhore, but I only have 3 that I use for serious work. There all fairly small, but they handle really well. I like the look of a beautiful Bowie or a competition chopper, but there not comfortable for me to do serious work with.

I’ll measure it when I get out to the shop, but I believe it’s 4”
