Nice, look a lot like antlers. In another life time, I worked in a spring shop. We made the recoil springs for those Detonics. ...tj

The Detonics, am curious, the reason why the rear sight is giving up about an inch of eye relief possible ?

Am curious, the reason why the rear sight is giving up about an inch of eye relief possible ? Also curious, but it sure would make a one-handed press-check easy

I was told that way back when the Detonics pistols were designed, many folks didn't carry in Condition One, with the hammer cocked and thumb safety engaged. Supposedly, many carried with the hammer down on a chambered cartridge, and had to swipe their thumb down the back of the slide to cock the hammer as they drew the pistol. Hence the dip in the slide and the forward sitting rear sight. I dunno; everyone I knew at the time carried cocked and locked, in Condition One. I suspect that was done just to look different, but then what do I know.

The Detonics, am curious, the reason why the rear sight is giving up about an inch of eye relief possible ? ***** Detonics planed the top rear of the slide, a sloping gradually toward the hammer. Possibilities* To facilitate a single action cocking, provide the thumb to slide back, onto the hammer spur. * Put rear sight closer to FOCAL PLANE (front sight). * Place rear sight ion lateral pivot of wrist, so that lateral flex of muzzle does not seesaw rear sight. * Look different, a.k.a. cool. I like those thoughts. Another, in the effort to shrink the 1911 platform, did it become necessary to move it, the dovetail ?

For what was to be a back-up gun, deep concealment piece, maybe to reduce gut gouging during draws ? Had a long half day, via text, discussion with three friends today. Two are combatives instructors, on A-IWB carry. So that kinda stuck in my head.
