I'm probably jumping the gun by even posting this. But, Clements is feeding me details as he completes this gun.
Many will question my sanity for building a 5-Shot 44-40 WCF. But, it's been coming for a while.
My gun was started when Clements was building his last batch of 5-Shot Revolvers. Before the gun was chambered, we agreed a new reamer was in order. The gun was put aside with an unchambered cylinder fitted.
So, Clements ordered a new reamer cut for Starline Brass loaded with .430" bullets, my standard load.
Eventually the reamer arrived and progress started back. He is putting the final touches on the build.
Some specifics are as follows: Base Gun - Ruger Midframe Flattop Bisley. Many claim this isn't a good choice, but I disagree. My JRH 480 Ruger built on one has held up just fine.
1) Oversized Cylinder 1.725" diameter 2) Pinned TLA Style Front Sight 3) Power Custom Oversized Cylinder Lock 4) #5 Base Pin w/ Hardened Latch 5) Crescent Ejector Rod 6) Action Job. Clements noted he built a trigger pivot bushing to remove all play
I'll report more details and eventually pics and a range report.

I wanna know what a Clements trigger pivot bushing looks like
And what's the barrel length. Given the support the case will get and the man building it, great accuracy is to be expected even if it's a shorter barrel.

Actually, I do too. I'll ask, but don't know if he has pictures of them.
He's never satisfied with the play in the Ruger Actions...
Barrel length will be 5.5"

I'll admit the Keith Latch is interesting to look at, but holds no interest to me. Know (hope) you'll be posting on a couple additions before long. Look forward to seeing those!!!

I think I just figured out that a Clements trigger pivot bushing is a $3 word for shim. Now if the sides of the trigger pin hole were enlarged a short depth for a bronze shouldered bushing that would overkill never before seen

Now if the sides of the trigger pin hole were enlarged a short depth for a bronze shouldered bushing that would overkill never before seen I'd interpret a shim as going on the sides and a bushing as going thru the pivot hole to make an oversized hole the correct size. I'll ask for some details when I talk to him next. Hopefully, he can provide us with a picture...

Sounds great!
David has been giving me the play-by-play on mine too.
It's kinda' nice but it sure gets the anticipation going.

Aaarrrgggg....I know Greg, there are those who appreciate the good work and those who belittle it. I appreciate the details as they unfold. FlyingZebra and Lee Martin posts some really great pictures on underway projects too. Really helps understand the effort that some of these Smiths put forth.

I asked Dave to explain the Trigger Pivot Bushing. I find this method more logical than speculation. All gunsmiths do things differently. His reply....
Basically it's a brass tube I make and press in an enlarged pivot hole in trigger. It supports the back end of the cylinder latch and takes any wobble out of the trigger. The hole in the center is reamed to a much better fit to pin than the factory does. They are fitted to length for each gun. It's just one of the ways to tighten the action that I use. I'll send you a pic tomorrow. David

Thanks Tim...
Hope this helps all understand what Clements does. He explained it extends from both sides of the trigger as much as allowed to keep everything tight in the action.
Also opened up for the gun's particular pivot pin. Each has to be fitted to the individual gun. It's not a generic fit...

Would be interesting to know if my Clements guns have this mod.
I'd guess not all need/get this treatment.
What I do know has already been said.
It will be right when the big brown truck arrives.

Greg, good question. I assume, like you said, it's probably on a gun by gun basis. Only installed if he sees a problem. I look forward to hearing about your guns. Hope you post about them here.

Heard from Dave today. This gun was test fired and in the final stages. It won't be long now...
I'd fulfilled the want for a fully modern 44-40 when Dave built my SBH so chambered. This will take it one step farther with five shot strength.
Hopefully pictures and range reports are not too far away...
