I've been pondering this. Many old cartridges get the three count and are considered out before they're thru fighting.
The Midframe Flattops, like the FA97, suffer from bullet selection due to the short cylinder.
The 1.100" case length of the Schofield pretty much makes it a 45 Special of sorts.
We know shooting shorter cartridges in a long chamber is iffy about accuracy. Sometimes they shoot great, sometimes they don't.
There are some great powders for the medium length cartridges these days. I'm convinced loaded to 45 ACP Pressures the round would produce some impressive ballistics.
I'm considering this path in the future and curious what others think...

I like the idea of reviving the older cartridges. in a Ruger they really get a step up in performance.
I did some work a while back for Ruger forum member 17tombstone and I think he said the gun the grips were going on was a Bowen in 45 Schofield. Wouldn’t hurt to reach out. was on an OM flattop frame and was quite a looker.

In the Midframe Flattops I wouldn't want to load over 20-22,000 PSI. With many bullet designs, capacity would approach the 45 Colt with a design that seats deeper. The capacity between the bottom of a seated bullet and the bottom of the case is all that matters.
This leaves a lot of wiggle room for those with a Caliper and knowledge about Internal Ballistics.
I appreciate the input and the saga continues...

YES! I like it! just because it's different. Thought about it myself, before I began the .401/10mm journey. Maybe one day when/if I return to my 45's. Also makes sense because of the efficiency of smokeless powders, fill the gap between the 45AR/ACP and 45 Colt.

I've had 45 S&W Schofield brass on backorder with Starline since about March. The only 45 Colt I have is a customized Montado and the short cylinder does mean you either deep seat the longer, heavier cast bullets or put them in shorter cases. I thought I'd try both.

I am a big fan of the short cartridges in the OM flattops. As Zane said he just finished some sheep grips for my .45 Schofield OM Flatop. Also did the same thing with .44 SPL and a dedicated .44 Russian. No practical reason just think they are cool on the Old Models.

I do have one OM 357 Magnum left, but having other evil thoughts about it.

One of my favorites and it has a long cylinder in case i decided to make one in colt.

That's an awesome gun Ronnie. In base guns, I have two left. A 5.5" Blued Midframe Flattop and a Birdshead 3.75" Vaquero. Both likely to become 45 Auto Rim or 45 Schofields...

Think that schoefield would be a good option in the 45 Colt cylinder of the OM .357 conversion David is building?
Pros and cons between it and simply sticking mostly to the 45 AR cylinder?

Think that schoefield would be a good option in the 45 Colt cylinder of the OM .357 conversion David is building? Pros and cons between it and simply sticking mostly to the 45 AR cylinder? For me, the Pro would be easily matching the power of the 45 Colt without restricting the bullet selection so much. The Con would be not being able to use 45 ACP like you can in the Auto Rim...
