...I don’t know if I was going to buy a new 1911 if it would be a 9mm or 38 super honestly, but the smaller rounds have grown on me in the last couple of years. That's easy. Buy both (barrels/mags).

Super..someone say .38 Super...my favorite handgun round... Have carried a Colt Commander daily since 1980... The first was basically stock with the addition of a BarSto barrel and MMC sights....carried it for 27 years. The second has all that plus full hard chrome... Both guns were made in 1952...same as me...and we were all born in Harford, Ct... web.archive.org/web/20170624164255/http://38super.net/hipowersandhandguns.com/Corbon%2038%20Super%20Ammo%20Tests.htmwww.1911forum.com/threads/four-caliber-stii.777762/Have a "few" more Supers... My first...1969 worked over by Dave Walters of Dallas, Texas...is good for 3" at 50 hand held... 90s vintage stainless Combat Commander... ...and an extra 9mm barrel... 1964 SUPER .38...bought the gun just to get the ivory grips... 1986 Super Elite with a Combat Elite slide and 7" ROTO 4M barrel... 1970s Combat Commander also worked over by Dave...has BarSto 9mm and .38 Super barrels.. 70s vintage Combat Commander with MMC sights in e-nickel... Just a great round....Bob

I too love the .38 super. I have a couple of sig 220 American style mag release guns, one of which I carry a good bit. Also have a Craig Fantom Fighter that I carry a lot. The Craig is an amazing shooter, the two sigs are mediocre accuracy wise but great for carry. I have always loved this cartridge and when I am carrying autos they generally only take a back seat to some flavor of 10mm

My only dalliance with the wonderful .38 Super was a Dan Wesson ECP. It was a great shooter and I actually liked the square trigger

I love the feel of a bob-tail 1911.

Was out shooting yesterday with several .38 Supers, one of which was a 1952 SUPER .38...box stock except for the grips.
Ran 2 rounds at 5 yards, two rounds at 10 yards , two rounds at 15 yards and four rounds at 20 yards and all ten were in a group the size of the palm of my hand. Was very surprised as a) the trigger pull is probably 5#+ b) still has the short trigger c) still has the stock "no-seeum" sights and d) still has the headspaced on the case rim barrel which usually has very poor accuracy.
The first 1969 SUPER .38 I bought which is pictured above ran 3'...yes FOOT, groups at 50 yards... At 25 yards I have shotguns that threw better "patterns"... After the BarSto barrel was installed it went to 3" at 50 yards with the same box of ammo...
This 1952 will be staying stock...Bob

I love the feel of a bob-tail 1911. I finally tried one...and liked it...Dan Wesson Guardian in .38 Super. Liked it so much I bought another...a SIG Nightmare Carry .357 SIG.... SIG was selling their .38 Super barrels for $50...so the Nightmare is now a two caliber gun... And the DW is at the smiths right now getting a 9mm barrel...

I feel like Glock should come out with a .38 Super.

...there "were" barrels made in .38 Super for the G20...only thing one had to do is heat the magazine lips and make the gap a little smaller...
