Heritage Birds Head Grip in Avatar S/S S/A Cylinder guide rod does not always lock in place ! Hope I am making sense! The release button moves smooth and if I hold in place the guide rod is solid ! So IMO the tension spring has lost some strength !? Would stretching it a bit be OK ? Have not found a replacement spring yet ! Rod does not look worn, It is a older version I got for a deal! No history on it but it is a .22 so and good shape and does not look abused Thanks for any comments

Are you referring to the Base Pin?

The base pin latch may not be engaging the groove in the base pin. Can be remedied with some careful filing of the groove.

Welcome to this forum, rado. Assuming you're talking about your base pin latch, you might just need to clean it of old oil/grease/carbon/crud. You might need a pair of screwdrivers with bits like this. When working properly, the latch will pop out and lock in your base pin when you shove it in. You can see and hear it pop. Might need to pull the base pin out and shove it in a couple times. If the latch spring is really weak, Wolff (gunsprings.com), Power Custom (powercustom.com) and Belt Mountain (beltmountain.com) sell them. Not sure if they will work in your Heritage. Hope this helps.

You might not need to take it apart, rado. A q-tip dipped in solvent might get the latch operating more freely. A 22's recoil shouldn't put much wear on the base pin groove or latch.

I pulled what I call the rod release button ,pulled the spring and pin out. Cleaned with a cleaning brush that fit and used Hoppes. A little better, If I push the release button a little hasrder ot hold the rod in . but will loosen up . the release button moves smoothly with no drag. I am leaning on the spring being weak . It is a older Heritage model, made before Taurus purchased them. I will try and date the serial #Thanks everyone for your help

You may be able to get a stronger spring from wolf gun springs

Keep in mind it was a Heritage Part that failed. Heed other's advice and replace it with a Wolf Spring... THANKS I found the spring with the buttons on the Heritage site ! And found a Cylinder base pin. I took the pin out of my New Rough Rider and it fits! It is 2 1/2: and my Old Heritage is 3 1/2" But the extra inch is on the exposed end so not a big deal. BUT it is a little longer on the hammer side of the Birdshead, does not touch anything and functions well !I will try and call Heritage since they show no E Mails. What is your 2 cents ? And YES I am a Noob to a SA revolver not Revolvers or Semi Autos so my terms may sound way off lol

Is it like the old ruger base pins that are only notched on one side, maybe needs to be turned a bit to line it up with the latch assembly

Is it like the old ruger base pins that are only notched on one side, maybe needs to be turned a bit to line it up with the latch assembly Thanks It is cut all around the pin.No notch.. When I compared it to my new Heritage the slot it is about 1/2 the size. I did e mail Heritage so will see what they say and a new pin is only 9$, But will see what they say if it is OK to use the new pin with the older model
