Shot the gun today...kinda... Had to borrow some reloads from a friend because the throats are so tight that my Accurate 120 and 135 S reloads would not seat...but do set in the 6.5" I have...
So a note has been sent to Fermin...

...think I found my "problem" with the loads not fitting into the cylinder.
When I sized these 31-120S bullets to .313 it was because at the time I had a Ruger SP101 and a LCP that were that large... In trying to drop some bullets through the chambers...they don't go through either of the FA 97s but the lead into the throats must be just a hair longer in the 6.5" gun because they will seat and function whereas the 4.25" has the thickness of a piece of paper of the casehead sticking up and the cylinder will not turn.
In resizing some of the bullets, I have a .308, .309, .310, .312 and .313 dies...the .312 can be "tapped" through and the .310 will just fall through...and of course it is the sizing die that I don't have that is what I need... Fortunately Midway has some .311s and was ordered this morning...
...so we wait...

Bob, have had that same problem with my FA-97 327 Fed/32-20. I buy bulk 32 Cast Bullets sized .313". They're a no-go in my FA.
Have a Lee .312" sizer that actually sizes about .3117". Ammo doesn't fall in the chambers, but easily seats with a slight push. I also apply a very light taper crimp after loading ammo in case seating bullets has caused the neck area to bulge...

The .312 would probably work and if I have time this afternoon to load some up I may as I'm going shooting tomorrow morning...if not I'll just wait till the die gets here...
Depending on the cast bullet design, I have to "seat" most of my loads that last little bit into FA chambers also...
I usually put a pretty healthy crimp on all my revolver loads as I find it helps with moth accuracy and powder burning...

Pretty much any configuration. Ideally with the accuracy and trigger job packages added in. Something around 5.5 inches. More or less barrel isn't a deal breaker though. Definitely want one with the bushed firing pin.

A 5.5" .44 Special is about as great as it gets...

I’m watching the auction sites for a FA 97 in 327 federal to add to my 22, 357, 41, 44, and 45 pile of 97’s. I see a 7.5 inch available but not feeling it. Might buy and scope it for some bench shooting but not there yet. Why did you buy yours in 327.nice gun by the way.
