Snyd, what an amazing accomplishment! You did it at retirement age with a revolver & in a walk in zone, buddy I salute you! I have filmed a lot of sheep over the years, spring summer, fall & winter but not got to hunt them, either here in Idaho or those beautiful Dall's in Alaska. I've been within 15 yds of a full curl ram in Idaho but no tag. Used to backpack into the Salmon River country in the winter just to film them. Your trip brings back a lot of memories & sweat & flies, but the journey is worth the rewards. Man, that ram is a doozy! I do wonder why no pack animals, what does that take away from the hunt? That seems to limit it to a small bracket of hunters, maybe that's the purpose. Again, many congratulations, you earned it!

Dick, There are two hunts for that area. The first season is a walk in and the second you could use motorized equipment or pack animals. There are limits as to what pack animals you can use in sheep and goat country here in Alaska though. I like the idea of the walk in tag because I'm on the same footing as anyone else. It isn't a $$ game then

Of course I was just joking, hadn't thought about diseases. I know wild sheep are susceptible to some things from domestic sheep or other animals. Pretty dedicated hunting Snyd, some of my Middlefork hunts were like that many years ago. What I hated the most were the wood ticks on the spring bear hunts! Again congratulations!!!

You and other Pistoleros here have been, and still are an inspiration to me. I greatly value all your experience and insight. This hunt was such a culmination of things. I'll write it up for another thread at some point. Just this morning I was reading your "Out of Africa" thread over at the Ruger forums. Wow, what a hunt. Fantastic. Like I said, you've been an inspiration. How's the foot? Here's hoping you'll get healed up quick! Perry

Awesome job Snyd!!! How was your moose season? Hey great to "hear" from you Vance. Moose season was great! I/We got a friend onto his first Moose! He's in his mid 60's and it was pure joy seeing him like a little kid at Christmas time. So much more fun him pulling the trigger on his first as opposed to me pulling the trigger on another one.

I totally agree. Unlike the Wood River Controlled.... I mean Special Use area. No motors except airplanes there. Years ago a buddy drew the motorized hunt. We biked then walked in 2 days before the motor season started. It was the first Sheep Hunt I ever went on. He got his ram, I got bit hard by the Sheep Hunting bug. 2 years after that another buddy of mine and I drew the walkin partner hunt. We biked in, walked in with home made game carts and got 2 first rams. I think I mentioned. My first and last rams were DCUA walk-ins.

Not many things can compare to being in good sheep country & seeing those amazing rams, whether it's Dall's or Bighorns, either way you're in heaven. Two beautiful rams you & your friend got there & you earned them, what a memory!
