Is it normal to immediately think “what can I have done to this pistol?” I can’t seem to stop lately. Every time I buy a single action or double action it is with the purpose of having some customizing done to it. Why can’t I just buy a gun for what it is? Also why am I asking this bunch of enablers?

Welcome to my world! Not one stock revolver lives at mi casa. Oops, forgot the model 58 truck gun but that’s just because the Bowen combat sights have not been installed yet!

You are evolved. No sense in leaving one alone.

I identify well enough but my wallet seems to be lagging in the concept.

My wife asks me the same question. I can't keep from "personalizing" them. Even if it's just grips or sights, something is getting changed.

Pre war S&W's are exempt, all others get in line.

Well, I'm a collector of "as shipped" Ruger guns,, so many of mine are not messed with. But many of the ones I use & shoot,, well,, that's different. I do tend to tinker a bit on some of them. Then,, even some of my shooters get left alone,, because they work just fine "as built!"

My guns are “users”, not “lookers”, so most of mine have had grip or sight changes and that’s about all. Most of my single actions have been to Alan Harton’s shop for trigger work and I have another that needs it now. The Bisley Flattop .44 special I just aquired has a horrendous trigger. I tried the “poor man’s” trigger job and it’s aptly named. I ain’t that poor ! The one concession I do make to appearance is grips. I like wood for the most part, (mainly because I can’t afford ram horn) and rosewood is one of my favorites, mesquite being second.
I do remember lusting after a Grover No. 5 back in the day, when it could be had for $1200. I couldn’t imagine spending that on a gun when I was only making about double that in a month. A couple days ago I gave $1700 for a FA model 83 in excellent condition and think I got a bargain. Whoda thunk it ?
Don’t let any of my meandering thoughts get construed to mean that I don’t like fancy handguns. I drool just like the rest of you when you guys post pics of your creations……..

Whatever it takes to make it your own. Sights, grips etc to start. Everyone likes something different

I think everyone's definition of "well enough" is different. I'm the World's Worst at looking at a gun thinking "what can I build out of this?"
But, I'm nearing the end of my base guns. Got five at Clements now, then hopefully a few more.
Want to discuss a couple with JRH too.
So, I feel your pain...

When I was young and very busy, I bought guns and happily used them, never noticing how they were factory plain Janes. Ruger Black Hawks made up the majority of my handguns, with a stainless King Cobra and a S&W model 10 thrown in for fun and defense. It was only after I got older and had time to tinker around that I developed the condition. It's fun to make them a little better and personalized, so why not? The model 10 seemed perfect, as did the Rugers and the Colt. The itch never came til I was getting gray, kind of like arthritis. But it's a good itch.

I think you’re nuts!
Anybody that thinks like that is totally out of their minds….
WHEEeeeeeeeee!
I did just get an invoice for 3 S&Ws and one Python re-bores that are finished. Is this a backwards obsession? Parts collecting is the worst….
