next custom... thinking small... again...

I've had the itch at least since COVID came around, & this last shortage hit us... went looking a couple times for donar project guns, & they were just too expensive...

well... I'm optimistic this next year will turn around a little... so my brain is working, before my wallet... I'm thinking I want to come up with a Single Six with adjustable sights ( either added or factory ) going to start by buying ammo when it's available, & bullets when they become available...

but I'm thinking an 8 shot 25 ACP... ( I already have an 8 shot 25 ACP built on a blackhawk )... & it's actually greater than the sum of the parts... it shoots factory ammo, & can be loaded light ( sub sonic ) with excellent results, as well as loaded hotter, also with excellent results ( in all fairness I think these can be loaded much hotter in a strong revolver, than the lil Colt auto could ever handle, but the size of the case warrants working up slowly & I've not reached a point that I've determined to be a maximum load in my revolver )

I got a terrific ( pre-shortage ) deal on the stainless Blackhawk, or I'd have used a Single Six the 1st time... I've thought about this alot, & while I love my custom cartridge single actions, sometimes it's just easier & nice to be able to take something shooting, that you could just plop in some factory stuff ( of course I'd save all the brass for reloading something I can't get from the factory ammo )

now to find a Single Six, & then get on a builders list...

So... what is your next custom??? & why are you building it in the caliber of your choice???

I have a Blackhawk 44spl languishing in the safe because I just don't like the plowshare grip frame. Been thinking for some time now that it might make for a neat 327 Federal Magnum. Don't know if I'll ever do it, but I've been thinking about it.

ya know... Ronnie could set you up with a custom grip frame in your configuration of choice... & get your 44 shooting again... ( not to discourage your thoughts on a 327

I solved the 44Spl problem......

but I still have that extra revolver.

I have one half done. It's a .414 Martin Razorback on a stainless New Model. The cylinder is finished and the Shilen blank arrived Monday. And I've been talking to Ronnie about a stainless XR3-RED +0.300" with high figure walnut. Other touches include a Bisley hammer and 6" barrel.

Have to admit, I have no new projects planned nor any base guns on hand. There are a few S&W ribbed barrels in the parts box along with one of the Colt style "Pony Express" bisley spurred hammers jsut in case things change. The only thing I have considered is an USFA flat op target with the Pony Express hammer and one of Bowens old style flat top rear sights if he would be willing to sell one or install one on the USFA gun. Guess I ought to call and him and ask.

I have an 4" S&W 10mm barrel I was going to put on a Single Six, & set up as a dedicate 40 S&W gun...

i like your 25acp blackhawk i have wanted a 25acp in a revolver for many years now keep going back and forth in my head bearcat single 6 or 7 now i wonder about a 16.5 inch t/c carbine or a 21 inch 251 tcr that tinker was playing with. maybe one of these days i hope.

I have 3 Projects out now,
And when one of them gets back to me (and paid for) I have two more in mind, I have a 6.5 inch NM .357 witch I have rough fitted a brass Potato Judge too,
And I plan to turn into a 360 DW, I will most likely use the factory barrel, and have a long Cylinder fit to it.
And I have NM Single six, I would like to make into a .327 federal. I want a longer Cylinder and Probably a 4 5/8ths Octagon barrel and a Birds head grip !

1) OM 41 Special built on a 357 Magnum Frame.
2) NM Flattop 45 Auto Rim Stainless.
3) NM Flattop Bisley 44-40 5-Shot.

Sent a couple more base guns off. Will post on them later...

I just had a "custom" finished off weeks ago that I have been too lazy to post some pictures of, but it's basically a replica of Huey's Lion Hunter build, I just went simple and had the sights installed though.

If I was to pick up another idea, I would really want to do a build on a small frame in the terms of a 10mm or a 41 special. I'm not sure the specifics of a single six for those two calibers specifically, but it's something I would be aiming towards.

Outside of that.. I would be modifying a Howa Mini Carbon Stalker in 6.5grendel and turning it into the lightest weight bolt action possible, as someone else on the forum had also done, but my base gun would be different this time as it comes from the factory already at 4lbs 10 oz (supposedly)

That's what keeps me from getting rid of the extra 44, I don't want to part with the grips.

The 10mm can be done in the NM's but I believe have to have an OM to do the 41 special?
