I really wanted one of these until I looked at the parts diagram. Why are these so popular with folks here? Why not a Ruger Super? Convince me, I want an 83-429 , but so far NO. Yep, those who don't understand no explanation possible, those who understand no explanation needed.

Accuracy- my FA83 in 44 mag came with a test target @25 yards that can be completely covered with a dime- including the small radial paper tears. Factory test load is the XTP and H110, so easy to replicate. Recoil- the grip frame is broad, trigger guard is rounded, and grips are perfectly fit. Infinitely better than a SBH in certain hands, mine included. Sights/optics- nothing beats the FA system for a scope, reflex sight, or red dot. Iron sights are excellent and do not need upgrading. Front sight system is superior to Ruger. Finish- the FA can easily be touched up with maroon 3M pads, and micarta grips can be polished out. In my experience, the Ruger scratch pattern is harder to blend and grips can't be repaired without refinishing. If you're thinking that's a tiny deer feel free to laugh, but at 150 yards it didn't make for an easy target at last light.

Freedom Arms builds the finest factory revolvers, period. Some people just want to start with the best and bypass the long wait that customs require.
We all get one shot at life. No reason not to work for and buy what makes you want...

Potatojudge laid it out perfectly. I have owned almost every other brand of single and double action firearms. When I bought my FA I was blown away. Cylinder throats were absolutely perfect, octagonal barrel, perfect sights and a grip I can actually use without having my pinky finger under the grip frame or beating the hell out of my knuckle in recoil. The FA grip tames recoil so well my 10 year old son shoots my hunting loads without complaint. You have to own one to get it.

I owned a 7.5” 454 for a couple years. Bought used, in good condition. Extremely accurate with anything I fed it. It’s primary purpose in my collection was for backcountry hunting. Due to the known fragile firing pin issue, I also sold it a few months ago and replaced it with a different make/model.
That being said, I’d love to own another, some day, in either 41 or 44. This would primarily be used as my deer/hog gun in Texas where a broken firing pin wouldn’t mean the same thing as it would if I was 10 miles deep in mountains.

It depends, maybe you should let me know first. I'll check it out for you. Don't want you falling for just any ole FA.

Any person in extreme NE Idaho will understand my affinity for a Mod 83 in 429.

Can someone compare cylinder lengths of SBH vs FA ? Possible OAL's ? I don't have a FA revolver, so someone else will need to measure one. Someone on Grey Beard says 475 FA83 1.750 long 44 Bisley 1.756 long x 1.728 wide. 480 Bisley 1.770 long x 1.727 wide. 475 BFR 1.850 long x 1.783 wide. 500 Linebaugh 1.853 long x 1.785 wide. John Linebaugh built.

I really wanted one of these until I looked at the parts diagram... What did you see in the parts diagram that soured your opinion of the FA design?

MY ORIGINAL .454 FROM 1986 HAS BEEN SUBJECTED TO SOME EXTREMELY HEAVY LOADS, THOUSANDS OF THEM, AND I WANT TO BE PREPARED WHEN IT FAILS.
