Ok, I'm back in the SA world. Just purchased a "like new" Ruger Blackhawk 45 4 5/8s revolver. This one is very clean but only has the 45 ACP cylinder. Which is why I wanted it. As I've gotten older (mid 70s) my SD plans from 2003 when I retired from LE have changed. 9mm is now the primary SD town caliber. I have a large stock of full bore 45 Auto in neat boxes of 100. Hence the need for a near indestructable revolver to fire these loads.
But as things loosen up abit in the ammo/component world I hope to add a 45 Colt cylinder, along with dies and brass. I have some 225 grain SWCs that I will start with. Any advice?
Gun is enroute from North Dakota, will post a pic or two when it arrives.

I have a 3 1/2" round butt FA M97 .45 colt with an auxiliary .45 ACP cyl. The .45 ACP cyl has taken up permanent residence in the little belly gun. Absolute joy to shoot. Think you are going really enjoy your new Ruger.

STRANGE BUT MAYBE TRUE, I READ A COUPLE OF YEARS BACK WHERE 45 AUTO AMMO COULD SHOOT FASTER IN A REVOLVER THAN AN AUTO AS THE FREE BORE IN THE CYLINDER CHAMBER GAVE THE BULLET A CHANCE TO PICK UP MORE SPEED BEFORE IT HIT THE RIFLING.
I HAVE PLENTY OF REVOLVERS THAT SHOOT 45ACP BUT HARDLY EVER SHOOT 45ACP IN REVOLVERS. BUT AS I GET OLDER (77 NOW) IN THE FUTURE I MAY START USING THE AUTO ROUND IN A REVOLVER.

This Horvath gun is a 45 ACP only. Plenty of gun for most tasks, and easy to shoot. The revolver gives you freedom in hand loading that closes a lot of the gap between the ACP and standard Colt loads

This all makes perfect sense to me. Spoke to Dave Clements yesterday about the final details of a Ruger Midframe Flattop 45 Auto Rim.
The 45 ACP/Auto Rim has plenty of power for the woodswalking I do.
Potatojudge - Awesome Gun!!!

Potato Judge, that Ruger is an inspiration, Thanks! Yes I have a wide variety of lead and jacketed bullets for 45 ACP. Lots of loads at 900-975fps, as Mr. Taffin stated the loads in my 44s correspond.
All I have left in 45 Semi Autos is a polymer framed one and don't want to wear it out with stout ACP loads. Had a boatload of 1911s over the decades. Simplicity, strength, reliability, and accuracy with no hurrues and the Blackhawk fills the bill nicely. Appreciated all your comments, especially Paul 105s words.

An excellent purchase! Sometime back in the late 90's, I picked up a pre-warning "Liberty" Blackhawk shorty for dirt cheap because it only had the 45 ACP cylinder. I counterbored the chamber's for Auto Rim brass & it's long been one of my favorite shooter's... I did eventually find a 45 Colt cylinder, but I'd bet it hasn't been in the gun a half dozen times since.

I believe David C is sending my OM flat top .357 to .45 AR conversion off for coloring very soon.
Im excited to get it in hand!
It will of course come with a .45 Colt cylinder too.
