ONE YEAR AT THE ANNUAL YO HANDGUN HUNTERS HUNT A ZEISS REP WAS THERE WITH A PROTOTYPE VARIABLE HANDGUN SCOPE, SO OBVIOUSLY THEY CAN MAKE THEM, Larry Weishuhn has a Zeiss mounted on his Ruger single action 44...I’d heard of Zeiss handgun scopes and I think have seen pics, but never one for sale or in person. CT looks nice but still lacks a lot of desirable features. I’d love a review after it sees some use.

The CT scope has four drop reticles ( that I will never use on my revolvers- my XP carries a 3-9x Burris) and zero reset

JUST TALKING HERE BUT IF YOUR SHOTS ARE MOSTLY 150 YARDS AND CLOSER THERE ARE PLENTY OF HANDGUN SCOPES THAT WORK WELL, especially revolvers.....

I agree with Rey 45man, we handgun hunt so we can get close and actually hunt. The current crop of magnification 2-8x or 3-12x should really be all we truly need for actual hunting, especially with revolvers. When I was running an optic on my 3 gun rifles it was typically a 1-4x or 1-6x, and we were hitting 4moa targets out to 300-500 yards. IMO more magnification is really not needed, for distances 300 and under, better glass and clarity are always welcome but more magnification,....not really.
Personally I’d like to see more 1-4x or 1-6x handgun scopes, given our shorter ranges, I think they are a perfect fit, I’m always looking on Bay of E for older Burris 1.25-4x scopes.

With little scope experience here(eastern woodland hunter), a thought. Are any of the rifle scopes meant for "scout" applications of any use for handguns ?

Vortex has one, haven't tried it on a handgun though to see what the eye relief is and if it's safe enough to use without cracking yourself from recoil.

Vortex on the 3-4 rifle scopes I've tried, have had very generous eye relief, so I'm guessing from that experience, that if their scout scopes are similar, they should work fine for a handgun???

I tried a Leupold scout scope. Didn’t find it to be an improvement over a fixed 4x Leupold pistol scope.
There is a now discontinued variable Leupold scout scope that goes to 5x I think and is illuminated, but they bring $$$ and I haven’t been able to find one.
Generous eye relief on rifle scopes is one thing, how far back you can take your eye and still have a usable image is another. Specs won’t tell you the later, only recommendations and trial and error.

Always thought a dot sight with 2x or so might be the ticket. Does anyone yet offer a dot type sight with magnification ? Someone makes (or made) a “2X power booster” that fits an Ultradot but I haven’t been able to find out anything more than that at the moment. I saw a .22 pistol with that set up on GB or Guns International last week but didn’t save it to my watch list. After reading this thread last night I started looking for the booster but I can’t find one and I’ve spent the better part of an hour this afternoon looking at GB and GI (poor pitiful me) trying to find it again.

Haven't used handgun scopes a lot but it seems like there should be something they could do about eye relief being so critical, just thinking.

I run a 4-12 Leupold on my Vern Juenke 17 Mach IV... Thinking my 300 Whisper XP100 currently wears a 6-24 B&L
