Anybody have a Freedom Arms Model 83 in 22LR?? I would appreciate hearing any experience with this rimfire in the Model 83. Thanks in advance for any insight.
Happy Independence Day, Mark Hampton

Trapr, It was indeed an honor and pleasure meeting you. Wish we could've had more time to visit. Yes, I'm already planning for next year's HHC -- Lord knows I need all the time and help possible.

I was actually thinking of a 97 with 7.5”-9” barrel. I’ve got a Ruger/Hammerli auto that shoots very well and may just go with it. If you’ll be at NRA show stop by the Burris booth and look me up.

Roger that.... I don't think I'll make NRA this round. Karen and I are headed to Africa later this month. Tell the folks at Burris I said hello.

Happy Independence Day, Mark Hampton Are you looking at the old model “252 Varmint class” it’s the same size as an FA83, size wise. The most accurate 22 revolver I’ve ever shot. The only thing I can say remotely negative is as a 5 shot cylinder, it’s a little hard to load 22’s in that big cylinder with large hands. They have a very comfortable feel.

Mark, I have owned a 7.5” 252 (83), as well as a 7.5” 97 for many years. My 252 dates to the late ‘90’s, and the 97 was the second to leave the factory in 2002 behind JT’s test gun.
The 7.5” 252 / 83 came from the factory with the standard Match chambers. These required inordinate thumb pressure to seat standard 40 gr. bullet cartridges; the slightly shorter 37 gr, WW hollow points were a bit easier. The hollow points were no problem in a range environment, but could be a nuisance in the hunting fields. Finally, after a volume prairie dog hunt in a dusty Wyoming setting, I got disgusted and sent the cylinder to Bob, who had the chambers opened up slightly “ between Match and SAAMI spec”, which cured the problem for me.
The gun was extraordinarily accurate with a 4X Leupold mounted, and frankly I saw no practical accuracy difference after the cylinder modification, using my standard WW hollow point ammo, which had also proven to be the most accurate in the gun. My 97 is also exceptionally accurate (same ammo), but only has a 2X Leupold mounted. Practical group size is almost the same as the larger gun, with any difference possibly, even likely, to be because of the difference in scope magnification. In .22, the 83 is a heavy gun when scoped. The 97 is a bit lighter, a 6 shot with all chambers loadable, rather than a 5 / 4 loaded 83. With no negligable accuracy difference, I slightly prefer the 97.

Mark,
I purchased a model 83 (252) in 22LR on Friday. Hopefully I’ll have a range report within a couple of weeks 😎
