I have been blessed by buying semi autos that run. My first 1911 was a Les Baer. Since then I've bought a few Glocks, then an STI and another Les Baer. Last your I picked up 2 Springfields. Neither one run with factory nor handloads. Since they've all run as desired I've never had to tinker wit them other than keeping them clean. I've started down the path of figuring out the issue and thought I had it today but no such luck. The one is a TRP 10mm. I included a few photos below. Every 1-3 rounds end up like the pictures. Here's what I've done and what I see. -My handloads use Starline cases. The factory were old PMC rounds. They drop in gauge and pass the plunk test. I have one picture of a round that bound a few times while function testing. -This happens with factory and Ed Brown Mags that I bought to eliminate the factory Mags. -I bumped up to a 22lb spring. No change. -From what I see the rounds bind and snag on the chamber. -The breechface appears to be smooth. -I've learned that too much tension from the extractor will cause this. I tinkered with that but was surprised at the extractor and maybe it is the issue. It is tight in the slide (it has a bow for tension) but has a loose grip on the case. What am I missing or what should I try (other than sending them back or finding a 1911 alchemist)?

kevshell.... you may have dimensional issues. If so, throw the gun over the bank or sell to someone you don’t like. It’s easier to piss up a rope than to fix some high dollar guns dropped in my hand. Dimensionally sour hardware isn’t worth a drive to the range. You’ve heard of lemon cars. This is it.
Nobody who spent big bucks wants wants to admit he's been had. My nickel says the gun has to go. David Bradshaw

If you like the guns I would box them up and send them back to SAI after consulting with them, they will likely pay the freight, they have a good warranty at least on their rifles.

With them paying shipping, keep sending it back to the factory until it's fixed or they offer to replace it.

Send it back. Brother had same thing happen with brand new one. I’m convinced chambers were jacked up on some. I have one and haven’t ever shot it and forgot all about that until I read your post. Need to check it.

That's an informative read. Thank you. But ultimately I believe I'll ask SA to fix their work first. I was hoping to rile out something simple. But after reading David's and Zeus' comments I'll be sending it back home.

I’ve had it since they came out but had never gone to range with it I read few other reports of the same exact thing. The one guy sent his back. SA reamed the chamber, tuned the extractor, recut and polished the ramp. I have the RMA and return label printed. It's headed back. Or I'll sell it and get the Nighthawk....

Couple of Bench rest shooters stopped by today. I thrown lead with these coyotes 20-30 years. I’ve watched these sandbag boys throw lead, they’ve watched me throw mine. They know my intolerance for a 1911 that doesn’t work. Fascinating, this BULLROAR about “break-in period.” Lets meet on the Fiting Line. I’ll bring couple old ., wore out SIG/Sauers and a and a Les Baer 1911Super Tac. Simple rules: throw lead, hit target. Pigs @ 100 yards makes a decent start. Any old .45 Auto drips trajectory one to two feet the length of of football field. Game on.
There are no alibis on the Firing Line.
Against a ton of customs and high dollar capers, I’ll take an old Colt Nationa;l Match to cross the finish line first in RE AIBLITY and ACCURACY.
Notice RELIABILITY comes first, and my re=ather stingy experience with the Colt Nation Match heaves it rather forward of some beaucoup bucks customs.
I don’t like the beautiful heavy steel National Match trigger. The trigger should be light to not incline doubling or full-auto fire.
Yeah, i’ve walked woods with these pistols. Listen to James from from Jersey and Ken O’Neil, two gents who’ve stumbled over a mountaineer two to stake their strike. To be in the same place at the same time as your prey, that’s where it’s at, David Bradshaw

I'm with you on reliability and accuracy. It's very frustrating to have a semi auto that lacks in the automatic department. I have far more revolvers because of reliability and accuracy. That said my Les Baers run like sewing machines. This Springfield was probably on par cost wise with the NM but it is not living up to the expectation.
It's similar to Whelens comment - "Only accurate rifles are interesting." Only accurate and reliable 1911s are interesting.

We’re throwing lead, not shooting bullseyes. Thumb rolls down to middle finger, which insures grip safety depression. David Bradshaw

Send it back as many times as it needs to go. Reminds me of a 12 year old Kimber I have - it made 2 trips back to NY. Still fussy about mags - loves Chip M mags - hates everything else. I hope SA sorts this out in short order. Good luck!
