It will be gone before I can buy it ! So I thought I would let you guys know ! I was looking at the Cabela's web sight, There was a SS series 80 Gold cup at the Lehi Utah store. Asking price is 850.00 A pretty good buy, i have 285.00 in points, so for 565.00 a screaming deal, But i need to see my Dr in 11 days, and if i end up getting cut on, i will need to have some money in the bank. They always have some good deals on there sight, some freaking insane high prices on other adds too. But if you take the time to look at all the adds there are some good deal's. One store had 2 1903 colt 32s for around 900.00 each. Another store had 2 of the same guns, and not in much nicer condition for 2700.00. A couple weeks ago, there was a nice GP100 for 500.00, Now there is a 6 inch blue one for 999.00. If i get put on the shelf at work for more than 90 days, I might apply there, selling guns part time, till i heal ! ...tj

Slide is roll marked National Match. The logo “Gold Cup” appears nowhere on frame or slide. Frame bears dedicated “NM” serial number. Frame & slideFrame cut for a serrated trigger the width of the trigger guard with adjustable stop. Serrated flat mainspring housing. Feed ramp in frame contoured & polished to feed wadcutter. Lowered ejection port to prevent denting case mouth. Sear gizmo, ostensible to prevent hammer from dropping as slide slams into battery. Lightened slide for wadcutter and shorten recovery from recoil in rapid fire. Elliason sight----forerunner of the great Bo-Mar----with micro adjustment taken off circumference of elevation & windage screws; as opposed to less precise detents stamped into bottom of screw head. Patridge-type front sight. A tasteful rib milled on slide, ostensibly to reduce glare. Frame & slide are milled for a different track contact than I see on Les Baer’s super accurate pistols. This indicates there is more than one way to fit John Browning’s slide concept----and achieve accuracy. While I am no authority on building a 1911 for accuracy, I have some ability to identify a shooter. And to be a “shooter” the pistol must combine ACCURACY with RELIABILITY. I’ve shot 6-inch groups @ 100 yards with these pistols, and 2-inch groups @ 50 yards. I suspect they shoot tighter @ 100, as I’ve fairly decent on IHMSA silhouettes, offhand. Rams set @ 205 or 210 meters at one match in Texas. Barrel & bushingColt barrel, whether made for match or selected from production I don’t know, but chambered & ramped to feed any bullet profile. Chamber not too tight----a good thing. Bushing counterbored to leave a barrel-bearing ring at each end. This creates a wedge effect as breech-end cams into battery. A brilliant strategy for consistent accuracy and RELIABILITY. SIG/Sauer used this triangulation concept to produce exceptional accuracy from production P220, P228, P229 , et cetera pistols. These guns were called “Gold Cup National Match,” with “Gold Cup” on the box----not the pistol. David Bradshaw AmmoI prefer an 18-pound recoil spring for anything above cupcake softball. Good hollow points often beat so-called match hardball @ 100 yards and beyond. Reason: It is more difficult to stamp a round nose jacket of uniform thickness, than to stamp a Truncated Cone or Semi Wad Cutter. Hardball is not all equal.

This one says Gold Cup National match on the slide, Can't seem to post a link, but it is on page 31 at Cabela's under centerfire handguns. I am tempted sorely tempted. I would need to do something about hammer bite, And use it as a winter time carry gun, a side arm in the woods. ...tj

Two years ago, I bought an apparently unfired Series 70 National Match Gold Cup, made in 1971. No box or ephemera ... $800, from a local dealer. My most accurate 1911 ever, including a couple accurized by Jim Clark, Sr. I did upgrafe to a 17.5 lb. Wilson recoil spring.

Colt Nation Match 1911’s I’ve known screaming reliability, with melon-head accuracy @ 100 yards. Screamers. On reliability alone, I pitch ‘em against standard 1911s. IPSC shooters throw beaucoup bucks at 1911’s to reign in reliability. Let us not fool ourselves, IPSC at the height of its glory didn’t scratch toenails on IHMSA silhouette. You want to play, lets play.
If you have a COLT Gold Cup that refuses to jam no matter what your thumb mashes into the magazine, keep it. Sixguns or autos, the gun comes to play or stays to home. Unless you plan to loose........ David Bradshaw
