So I’m wondering if anyone makes a military Mauser reproduction? I’m wanting to find an older style military rifle for shooting. Or is there another rifle I should look at? I want something fairly short for truck gun and hunting. I’ve got lever actions that kind of fill that void but looking at bolt guns.
Thanks

There of lots of surplus 8mm Mausers out there. It would be hard to go wrong with one...... The ones with straight bolt handles are excellent for left handers.

Mossberg makes some nice short bolt guns with open and receiver sights.
I have two of the Ruger GSRs in .308 and .223 and they are excellent..

I have one of the first Ruger GSR rifles with the grey laminate stock. Mine has a Leupold Scout scope but it’s more accurate than I am with the issue peep sight. I shoot it without any muzzle device or stock spacers and use the five round Magpul magazines. It doesn’t fulfill the purist definition of a “Scout Rifle” but it does put venison in the freezer.

My first choice would be CZ. A Carl Gustav Swede would be great as well. Any of the 98's would be good as well.

Not Mauser but, When someone says " military style" and "truck gun" my first thought goes to a Mosin Nagant M44. The last of the cheap an easy surplus guns. Couple that with still available/affordable spam can ammo you get a fearless and fun to bang around truck gun. Some will argue collectable Blah Blah and of course some are . But there are a gazillion of them out there and not all are loved. No longer $50 but shooters can be had for $150 to $200 if you look around . Search for one with a good bore and very little else matters for a beater. If it's gotta be Mauser some of the Yugos are still fairly affordable but surplus ammo is getting thin.

Whatever you get, try not to shoot much corrosive ammo in it. It never fails (at least for me) I will fire some and forget to clean it right away (truck gun, so...).
The Yugo rifles were awesome. The early Swede 96's with the micrometer (for lack of better term) rear sight rifles were awesome. Havent seen many "cheap" true 98K's lately, havent really been looking either.
The Mosin rifles will do everything and anything you want a truck gun to do but they are usually pretty long to get out a truck window quickly.

Love mine.

That Ruger Scout rifle pic reminds me of my old Enfield Jungle carbine. That thing was a THUMPER!

My rifle in that category is a No. 5 Mk. 1 (Jungle Carbine). It is excellent for short range purposes. I have killed several deer with it.

Not a military Mauser but still a Mauser. Husqvarna's can be had with sights and at reasonablr prices.
