So, here we are for anyone who's predicted it long enough, today's your day.
Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Seems it could go either way, but I hope TC stays viable through this.

I was sadly disappointed when S&W acquired T/C. My thoughts at the time were; "Wonder how they will treat the T/C customers?" Well, between the management changes & other things,, it has been like a bastard child to S&W. Go to the SHOT Show, look for the T/C booth, & you'll find it buried in the S&W booth. Sometimes having to hunt for it. A small section, NOT placed for viable marketing.
To me, hopefully, someone will buy it with the intent of bringing it back to the forefront of the shooting public, with pride in it. I guess we'll see before long.

I see this as very positive news for the T/C brand. Hopefully it shall return to it's former glory... Especially in the traditional Muzzleloader market.

That Marty sees this as positive worries me a little. Not like he's missed a mark recently. Not bashing Marty as much as poking a little. I do admire his optimism, enthusiasm and his historical perspective on the way Smith' has hidden TC under a bushel.
Must remain optimistic.
Must avoid conjecture.
Must be patient..........
I HAVE all the TC stuff I need - I'm flush and happy with my TCs - no need nor want in that respect. I just wan them to succeed - to not succumb to the massive move toward all that's plastic and ugly - nothing but copies of Savage rifles (nothing wrong with Savage rifles) and Glock pistols. That stuff's OK, but I want things the way I want things - the way I've come to like and expect things. I'll not apologize for that either, by the way.
But, I'm a mere molecule as customers go, so I may not get exactly what I want....

The question from a honest business stand point is what is there of any value? That was the thing when Smith bought them, I didn't see what they planned to do with TC in the first place and over time it has been pretty clear they didn't know either. But what is there of value moving forwards that justifies a large cash outlay to get it?
This is from a business point of view not a gun guy point of view because it is a shame what has become of TC...

Can you imagine a S&W meeting of fresh faced engineer types... You want to build a single shot, break action, pistol? WHAT?!?!

I wish they'd make the TC Contender single shot rifles again.

Great! I need a hammer for an Encore, only way is to send it in. Wonder if it'll make it back or get "lost" in the transition?

Yes - repurposing the machinery, so someone else would start at a major disadvantage. Not encouraging.
Along the lines of what Fowler is saying, it could be a stretch to expect someone else to grab TC and run with it. As short-sighted as it may be, ARs, 1911s, pocket autos and Glock-Clones are all the rage at the moment. 5.56/223, 9mm, 7.62x39 ammo is taking precedence over pretty much all other production in ammo right now.
Many things more traditional are taking a back seat, as popular as they may seem to US. Yet WE may comprise a very small part of the market in our likes and preferences for single-actions, lever-actions, single-shots, etc.
Yeah, there's a bunch of us, but maybe not enough of us. I think of the Ruger Flat Top 44 Special, which sold like hotcakes, as we predicted it would for decades. Now we can't find them! What looks "big" to us from where we stand is not all that big to Ruger or S&W. The market became as saturated with 44 Specials as they could tolerate and they stopped bothering with them.

S&W have a knack for marketing stuff with zero appeal to shooters. I am a Smith fan, love S&W revolvers. The stuff coming out of the Performance Center looks like it is targeted for 10-year old Star Wars fans. They need to immediately lose the external hammer lock (Hillary Hole), As with Colt, they have always tried to react to a market trend two days too late. I hated it when they acquired TC. If Ruger should step into the game - and I can see them being a viable player - I see an American double rifle on the horizon.
