Walking across the street to get the mail, it's just a 32 mag in a DeSantis pocket holster... if we go in to town I'll add a Glock 43 to the mix.

We’ve deviated from the original thought, i was interested in smallest caliber carried afield. Granted human use allows for less caliber in many instances, furry creatures don’t give a crap about ballistic charts, external ballistics, or what’s that person pointing at me and many times don’t care what that loud noise was.

Smallest carried afield is still the 22 High Standard 2 1/2 in Sentinel in snake country ,loaded with 5 shot cartridges and 4 solids, in addition to. The daily carry in 9mm that goes on with my pants in the morning. I also believe in staying proficient with the things I trust my life and limb to , I don't just carry them. My friend who has the snake infested farm also had game camera pictures of a bear at his feeders last year. I see the snakes as a bigger threat to me, and the most likely to run across.

Should clarify my post. When walking the woods a 22 is usually in my pocket. However when we are in the backyard or feeding the fish in the pond/lake it is usually a S&W Governor loaded with .410 ammo. 22 bird shot is a ineffective choice for killing snakes beyond a few feet away. The Governor will take them down easily 10 yards away. I detest water snakes and kill everyone I see. Most other snake species get a free pass. My CC guns are usually S&W snubbies loaded with 38 special +P rounds.

I do wish CCI/Speer folks would market shot capsules for the 480/475 and the 32's. Yes I can and do load my own but the capsules just work. Get shot capacity out in front of the case mouth. Etc..

My guess is they have their hands full trying to get caught up with what they have now that they produce in mass, 32 and 480 shot capsules wouldn't exactly be a high volume sales item for a long while...

The smallest I carry rambling my 70 acres in South Carolina is 1964 Ruger Bearcat 22. Light and accurate. Snakes don't worry me much and although we have them, coyote are rarely seen in daylight.
