Wondering how the shortage is in your area? Surely, it reaches from coast to coast. But, seems to vary with time here.
I frequent several gun shops within a 100 mile radius. Obviously, the closer ones most often.
There are plenty of rifles and shotguns here. Ammo for them, not so much. There is a fair amount of bird and rabbit shot, but buckshot is not to be had.
A pretty good supply of pistols. The majority are 9mm. I'm guessing that is due to the ammo shortage too.
Revolvers are almost extinct, with the exception of Ruger Wranglers.
This week my LGS got in some 9mm, 380 and 22 LR. First I've seen on the shelves in a good while. They've had some, but could only buy it with the purchase of a gun.
Most dealers are doing the best they can. Some deal with the situation, a few blame everything on somebody else. Situation normal in the world these days.
Wild accusations from conspiracies, bribery, favoritism to who knows what.
I do suspect the contemptible dealers treat their suppliers just as they do everybody else and are probably paying for it with a lack of support when they need it.
BTW, zero gun powder or primers available locally. I see a few pop up online, but disappear quickly.
Just wonder how this compares to different areas?

I'd like to offer up an opinion, but honestly I've only been in one gun shop since the whole thing started, ( that was 5 months ago, to transfer the Ruger boat paddle I bought on Gun Broker ) & he never really has anything in there, but consignment guns, & his racks were normal... one of the handgun cases he has recently dedicated to custom local made knives... we'll see if he switches that back to guns again when things loosen up...
I know Midway, & the online places I shop more often, are still short of bullets and cases...

Interestingly enough, we even have a good stock of ARs. Mostly Wise Arms which is a local operation with a good reputation. They've been great to keep the local boys well stocked.
Ammo for them is a bit more challenging...

A few guns here and there. Not a single bolt gun in .308 to be found, though.
Interestingly, local shop has a Model 3 Schofield/Russian in 44 S&W Russian. If I had an extra $1400 laying around that would have been picked up Saturday. Heck, they want $1,000 for an Uberti clone. Starline makes the brass, just sayin'.
No powder. No primers. Very few bullets.

As above, no powder primers or much in bullets. Some guns left, there was quite a run, particularly on home defense stuff. I very rarely buy guns retail anyway, but this dry spell on reloading components is getting old.

Our BIG LGS theres a line to get in and Im not sure why. I hear that ammo is on the shelf at chain outdoor type stores but it doesnt last long. Then again, when I visit my local home public range and hear all the rapid fire......I wonder if there really is a an ammo shortage, lol Bottom line is, our local public range has been bust each time I have visited it.

I question a "shortage" too. Just think the demand really outweighs the supply. I suppose that's a shortage, but...

A guy on the mewe website posted his recent delivery of 800,000 primers. Says he is a small ammo producer. Maybe I should get a license to make ammo, and put in my order...

I bought a new 9mm a couple of weeks ago. Paid full retail for it which was expected. The gal asked me if I wanted a box of 9mm ammo with it. I was surprised since the shelves were bare. She comes out of the back with a box and charges me $29 for a box of generic ammo. I should have expected it but I was pissed at the time.

Guns here are still readily available. Ammo and components is another story. 9mm range ammo can be had if you’re willing to pay $600/thousand

Thanks guys...
Sounds pretty much the same everywhere. I was rudely informed that if my (or any) gun shop had any ammo they were crooked. Knew this was straight up BS, but figured I'd ask around.
Still figure just a case of distributors letting karma take it's course.

It's pretty much empty, nothing factory at all. Primers are no where to be found. One shop has a ton of powder but nothing that is really in working order for my application needs. I haven seen a good amount of guns coming into shops, a lot of AR's and sporting rifles, but smaller batch stuff is pretty hard to find overall.

No ammo, no primers and little powder to be had down here. I also am getting tired of the shortage. This is some bull stuff right here. No shooting around my ranch except for me doing it. I mean I NEVER hear a shot from a neighboring property. Just to break the silence I take one of the full auto's out and run a mag through it just to let the neighbors know I still care. The HK 91 is a great auditory intimidator.

Been to a few shops in my area. The shops that have a reputation as the most expensive in town, still have some inventory. The big box stores are wiped out of everything except for birdshot shells & a few "odd" calibers.
One of my favorite shops is a hidden little gem that has no mention of "gun shop" in the business name. It has evaded the notice of out of town buyers from the big city a couple hours away. Family owned for 30-40 years. No gouging, but a limit on how many boxes of ammo you can purchase each day. Cash only, no cards.

One of the things I've had the most difficulty in finding is 30-30 Bullets.
30-30 ammo has been impossible, bullets for reloading not much better.
Was finally able to add a few boxes of Hornady 150 grn RN and one box of 160 grn FTX.
UPDATE: After posting this, I saw Midsouth had Hornady 160 grn FTX Bullets in stock. Ordered enough to do me for a long time...
