Anyone shooting 45acp out of their M97 with the optional ACP cylinder? Any problems using mixed brass or accuracy problems ? Would like to hear the pros and cons of ordering this cylinder with a M97 .45 Colt . Thanks in advance.

I put the .45 ACP cyl in my M97 several years ago and it remains there to this day. Never had any ammo problems. I've shot a bunch of different stuff thru it - reloads with mixed cases, various bullet weights, standard factory and some boutique from Buffalo Bore and Underwood. It's the most useful auxiliary cylinder that I have. Paul

I have one for a Model 83. I use bullets sized .452 which just squeeze in with alittle pinky pressure. I get more use out of my pistol.

Thanks in advance. ***** Nick.... single actions built on the load & unload one-at-a-time concept are a perfect home for the .45 ACP. Accuracy @ 50 and 100 yards depends on the bullet and its load---- not the Freedom Arms revolver. The FA Model 83 has the 1:24” twist settled on by Dick Casual for his .454 Casull. Colt’s standard 1:16” twist and Casull’s 1:24” produce fine accuracy @ 100 yards. The revolver chamber fully supports the case. Even so, .45 ACP brass isn’t made for high pressure. My rule is to load .45 ACP to interchange between auto and revolver. Expect the length of a football field to soak 12 to 18-inches worth of trajectory. David Bradshaw

I also have a .45ACP cylinder for my 83. My everyday practice load of 4.8gr of titegroup and a 200gr SWC with mixed brass is accurate and a pleasure to fire in the 83. Due to the low recoil, it is a favorite of new shooters.

As to mixed brass only your own sixgun will tell you BUT every time I have used brass of any caliber in my sixguns I have found the difference in accuracy to be of no great consequence. Shooting long-range rifle? Maybe. Sixguns? No practical difference.

I have one for a Model 83. I use bullets sized .452 which just squeeze in with alittle pinky pressure. I get more use out of my pistol. The .45 Model 83 is versatility personified. My 35-year-old + 4-3/4" .454 also has extra cylinders in .45 Colt, .45 ACP, and .45 WinMag. All work very well. When the .500 Wyoming Express arrived I sent my 7-1/2" .50 Action Express back Freedom Arms to have the Wyoming Express cylinder fitted. I also purchased a 4-3/4" .500 Wyoming Express Model 83 and both sixguns always wear the Wyoming Express cylinders. Probably about three handiest Packin' Pistols I have are the 4-3/4" .454, .475, and .500. My every day packin' Freedom Arms Model 83 is a 6" .44 Magnum and I've always planned to have that barrel cut back someday, however someday hasn't arrived yet. Actually, as I have gotten older I much preferred carrying the 5-1/2" Model 97s in .44 Special, .45 Colt/5 ACP, and .357 Magnum/.38 Special. I have been blessed to have been able to acquire wonderful sixguns for the past 35+ years.

Mine is in .45 Colt only and I have also rounded off the front corner of the grip frame with about a quarter inch radius which makes it much more comfortable for my aging and tender hands.

I've never seen a Freedom Arms that didn't scream perfection.
My favorite two revolvers are FA-97s in 44 Special and 45 Colt. Both wear 5.5" barrels.
Have given serious thought about sending the 45 Colt back for an ACP Cylinder to be added.

Thank you all for the replies. I’m getting ready to order my sixth FA and have boiled it down to a M97 7.5” in .357 or a duel cylinder 5.5” M97 in .45 Colt / .45 ACP.

My last addition of FA-97S was a 7.5" 357 Magnum/9mm. I just scoped it with a Weaver 2x on a T'SOB Mount.
