In my short and uneventful life, it seems grips are the single most personal feature of a revolver. YEP

Fossil Ivory, both Mammoth and Walrus is pretty hot right now. a lot of it is colored red/brown/blue but it can be found in a blonde/cream color. Stabilized Holly is something I’m working on now that I believe will be a big hit. it’s tougher than regular Holly, won’t need a finish so it’ll feel more like ivory/stag/sheep horn. and I don’t believe it will age like regular Holly does. of course only time will tell. lscg: PLEASE KEEP US UPDATED ON THE STABILIZED HOLLY

IVORY IS REALLY COOL BUT COST AND LAWS HAVE ME LIMITED TO 5 PAIRS.
PLASTIC IVORY GRIPS USUALLY DISAPPOINT.
I REALLY LIKE HOLLY GRIPS, AND AM INTERESTED IN THE STABILIZED HOLLY PROJECT lscg REFERENCED.
I LOVE STABILIZED ELK STAG FOR THEIR LOOKS, FEEL, STRENGTH, THE WAY THEY AGE AND AFFORDABLE COST. SOME ELK STAGS HAVE A LOT OF BARK, SOME HARDLY ANY (THESE ALMOST LOOK "IVORY"), AND THE REST ANYWHERE IN BETWEEN. AFFORDABLE NATURAL GRIPS WITH A LOT OF CHARACTER.
TOO BAD THEY QUIT MAKING IVORY MICRATA.

I've got the site bookmarked for Resin Ivory but have yet to try any. Did not realize they had Schreger lines. It's goood looking stuff!
The stabilized holly sounds very interesting to me as well.

This was my first attempt at loading photos so my apologies they spread out so much. The top one is just a good example of an older Ivory set that has aged enough to have some yellowing starting. The next one, the 1911, is a set of Giraffe bone. The third from top is a set of Elk Stag. The fourth and sixth are Ivory still in the white/cream color range. The fifth one down is a 30-40 year old set of Bone grips. The seventh one on the bottom of the group is a set of the Boone Trading “American Ivory” synthetic Ivory. They are pleasing to the eye but have a surprisingly different feel than the natural Ivory/bone/stag grips. Not necessarily a bad thing, and kind of hard to describe, but different. That last observation my just be “all in my head”. :-)

I ordered a couple sets of the S type Resin Ivory... one set for a 41 Special conversion I'm getting ready to send out and the other for my 44 Spl Bisley flat top.

I bought a couple of oversized slab's of the Resin-Ivory+S from guitar part and more recently. I haven't whittled on it yet, but I can already tell I'm gonna like it! A few quick projects ahead of it, but mine will be used for a set of one piece grips for my Uberti 72 Open Top & matching knife handle's.
