Picked up a #3 from my retired buddy a little while back... not a huge fan of the 22-250, though this has a custom fast twist barrel, IMO making it a bit more versatile...
Seeing these #1 big bore threads...
Is there any reason a #3 couldn’t do anything a #1 could in the customizing department???
What are the differences???

None, same action...

All the same except the lever and stock (No 3 lever needs to be curved a bit more to fit a No 1 stock).
A fast twist 22-250 is a nice gun though. Ream it to 22-250 AI or 22 Creedmore and enjoy.

Just thinking it would be a good stalking rifle... to go with one of my big bore handguns... 500 JRH, 480 Ruger... even 357 Maximum would match up with revolvers needing a companion Just thinking... bolt face / extractor same size as 22-250...357 Max might be close?

Of course this one has a nice plum colored action, and all 3 revolver calibers I listed are in stainless revolvers... would likely be a smaller bore match up if I were working in blued... maybe 22 CCM as a companion for my custom single 8 conversion???

I had JES rebore a 223 No 3 to 357 Max. It’s a neat little rifle.
I have a 500AK No 1, very nice and a powerhouse, but heavy.
My factory No 1 in 45-70 is short and nimble. Carries the best of the three.
I suppose if you’re looking for a companion rifle, JES could turn your 22-250 into a 475 L for $225 with a two week turnaround. I think a 475 would clean up a 250 case but he’d know for sure. I think he’ll shorten a barrel also. No reason for a long barrel on a 475 rifle.

Roger Renner does a lot of really nice looking custom rifles and carbines on the Ruger falling block action.
He's currently doing one in 50 Action Express.

While I didn’t mention the 50 AE... that would be interesting, because that custom revolver is blued, but I already have a custom Marlin in 50 as a companion
Who is JES... not ringing a bell this morning, pre caffeine

I actually like the Number 3 better for customizing because of the ball detent on the lever.
It needs a number 1 pistol grip stock to control recoil and the pig tail lever needs to be cut and re welded.
I think a mannnlicher stocked number 3 custom would be very attactive.

It is a fun rifle to shoot! Lots of power available if you want to tap into it. Right now its shootin the MP 477-640, a 390gr HP at 1500fps.

A couple pictures of my Ruger #3, I'm considering for a custom build... Plum receiver... The barrel band I ordered after fitting... Recoil Pad on the plain stock I'm not as big a fan of the "red" recoil pads, as I am the the black decelerator recoil pads... couple spacers here to lengthen the LOP the barrel is only cold blued, so at minimum I want to send it out for "real" bluing... if I'm going to send it out, it could just as well get a caliber change, & some fancier wood
