I'm just venting and I can't go into specifics; but it is proven to me fairly often that there are idiots amongst us (general public not this forum). I had it proven again very convincingly Friday and reinforced Saturday.
Please note that i'm using the term "idiots" loosely. I'm not referring to the uninformed or innocent or those who aren't intelligent; but to those who intentionally, knowingly, and willfully make really poor decisions / take really bad actions.

I owned a small business several years back. I spent the majority of my time attempting to idiot proof the customer's experience.
I failed.

Sadly,, you are correct. I see it daily. A good example is in driving. People have been educated in how to drive safely, and how to avoid accidents & such. Yet, look at the folks who drink & drive, text & drive, or do the MANY other things they should not do while driving. One of my favorite pet peeves, people who ride a bicycle on 2-lane, mountainous, curvy roads, where there are many blind curves, no bike lanes, & the posted speed limit is 45 or 55 mph. And I've asked many who do this; "You know it's dangerous. You know you aren't capable of doing 10 mph uphill, in blind areas, and know that young, inexperienced drivers, tourists, old people etc who all may have issues driving AND avoiding you are out there. You know that there are big trucks, or other vehicles that aren't easily maneuvered on these roads. Any you still do this. You know that if there is a collision with such a vehicle, despite what's legal, it WILL affect TWO families. Yours AND theirs. What happens if you are killed? What happens if a driver swerves into oncoming traffic & hits another driver? NOW you have THREE families affected! So my question to you, as an educated person, why do you choose to put so many people at risk?" So far, NONE,,, and I mean NONE of them have given me an answer that can make me understand the WHY they do it. Most have some explanation such as; "I enjoy it" or "I know the risks," to my absolute infuriating "I Don't Care!"
It may be legal, but it's also putting many people in danger. To me, these IDIOTS are putting many innocent people in a position of grief, sorrow, or financial distress. Especially when there are many other places where there are bike trails, or other places built to be used as a safe place to ride.
Ok, rant off!

Today I qualify as such... probably too windy to cut down trees today ( and I know it ) and yet I dropped a 70-75 ft dead pine into the wind ( fell exactly as I wanted it thanks to a lil persuasion from the tractor ) I’ve been doing quite a bit dropping and quartering those tall dead pines where I’m building pastures, so I can put up fence without worrying about them dropping on my fence panels...
Had a long branch on a walnut that was hanging over where I was putting a gate... up taller than I was comfortable with ( I’ve been an idiot before, and put a pallet on the forks of the tractor, climbed up with a step ladder, and cut them... finally decided to be an idiot again today... the wind blew the rather large branch over to the pallet... knocked me off backwards, causing me to roll backwards down the loader frame, on to the tractor and then to the ground...
I’m pretty old to be bending and bouncing as I did...
I obviously lived... knocked the wind out of me, I bit my tongue, scraped the top of my head, and have sore muscles in my neck and back... had to go up to the house and tell MRS to tell me she “told me so”...
Sitting and licking my wounds, as I typed this out ... none very serious considering... stiff neck worries me most... will head out in a few, and cut up the branch, plus have a half load of feeds and bales of wood flakes for the chickens to unload from the truck, before I call it an early day, maybe toss some mineral salts into the whirlpool bath Luke warm and soak my neck for a while
Hoping the OP’s idiot situation wasn’t more painful to him, or longer lasting than mine...

Magnum, I don’t know you at all but given the subject matter of this thread and of your contribution, I feel it is my duty to advise you that you should NOT soak your neck from the head down but from the shoulders up. Tryin to be helpful is all

Magnumwheelman: The situation prompting my post doesn't involve physical pain. Just a lot of "headaches" I don't really have the spare time / energy to mess with now. Don't really have much choice though so dealing with the stupidity will have to take priority over far, far more important things.
Hopefully, will have it all resolved this week; but could potentially drag on for years and consume lots more time.
In the big scheme of things, it is petty. People are dealing with far more significant stuff every day. Still aggravating as heck though because it is just idiocracy.

Well at least in my case my being an idiot only effected me... I even made lunch for MRS, her cousin, and kids that regularly help her with cleaning the chicken house every couple weeks... got a reasonably busy day at work tomorrow, but expect I can perform my duties... as long as I don’t lock up tonight

My situation could potentially have a significant impact on a lot of people. Hopefully, it won't.

In my previous life I was an LEO, now retired and completely burned out on people and society. Dealing with morons and the Lenny & Squiggies of the world on a daily basis. I can tell you that complete morons and idiots don't have the capacity to comprehend simple lessons in life. Too many stories, but as a prime example, we had some idiot tweaker meth heads steal some blasting supplies from a local hard rock mine, which included blasting caps. So one of the geniuses wanted to make a necklace out of a blasting cap because it was shiny. So he formulated that he had better pick the RDX out of the cap so it wouldn't blow his head off. So he went to work with a walnut pick while he was tweaking in front of the TV. The neighbors reported a loud bang and we found the missing explosives, clearing the case. We also called the genius 'Stubs' from then on since all he had left on two hands was a twisted thumb. As my grandfather used to tell me when I was a smart-assed teenager, "You're so stupid you don't know what you don't know."

I voluntarily agreed to let my wife have the house remodeled. Then she said I was in charge of it. I knew better than to do this. I flippin knew better and did it anyway. I qualify.

It truly is a shame that the morons, idiots, D-people have such an effect on us. Yesterday I arrived on site to do the factory startup on a $74K pumping station our little company sold. It took six months for the manufacture to complete, 2 months late waiting on electronic parts, our shipping agent screwed up the delivery which is almost normal these days. The engineering plans, quote and approved submittal package all stated 460/480 voltage. The machine is installed with piping running everywhere the electrical was to be connected while we were on site. I open the panel and what do I see, 208/230 stickers on the VFDs, motors, transformers, transducers, and cricket breakers. I guess I should have flown to Dallas to make an in person inspection before shipping, or maybe have gone to the delivery site and take a look see. This s all my fault, I'm the moron, idiot, D-person for trusting everyone involved to do their f*&^#ng jobs correctly.
