This is my first .32-20 of any kind. I know there used to be "rifle" and "handgun" loads a long time ago but there were also a lot of very weak, non-heat treated .32-20 handguns back in the day...
So the question is, for a newly manufactured Colt SAA in .32-20 what kind of loads can one run?
I have 90-95-120-130 grain cast bullets...
Thanks...Bob

Do yourself a favor and order a Lee Collet Crimp die for crimping. It will save a lot of cases and aggravation!!!!!
Also, if possible try to stick with Starline brass. It is FAR better than any other brass out there....

Old stocks of 4756 are gold for a 32-20.

Brian Pearce did a couple of extensive articles over loads for the 32-20 in the pages of Handloader magazine. I'll see if I can run mine down and get the numbers so you can get the back issues if you want.
A couple preemptive suggestions- Make sure you wear earplugs and ear muffs when you shoot heavy loads; it's a LOUD little cartridge. EK even mentioned this in SIXGUNS.
Since alcohol consumption while handloading is probably not safe, I considered a prescription of Xanax to help deal with the anxiety of wide extreme spreads with some loads. Pearce even mentions this problem (wide E.S.'s, not Xanax)in one of his articles. I found as long as I stayed with fairly standard loads with fast-ish burning powders, everything was pretty much normal. But when I delved into the heavier loads with 2400 and other such powders, extreme spreads were at times so wide, that I could literally tell the difference in recoil and report before I even looked at the chronograph reading. I tried many different primers, to no avail. But really, it's a small game cartridge so there's no much need in souping it up, in my opinion.
Good luck!

The main thing I've found for high performance 32-20 Ammo is to stick with heavier bullets.
I use 115-125 grn bullets if I move up to magnumish loads. With bullets of 100 grns or less, I stick with the faster powders like Unique.

Thanks all... This is just going to be for range work out of the pair of Colt SAAs so no super-duper loads are needed... I have the Accurate Molds 31-120S and the larger 31-135S and lots of Unique and AAC-7 so should not be too much of a problem...

I decided to put way too much 2400 behind a 118gr .32-20 bullet in .32 Mag. I don't remember how much. I fired a couple in my M16-4 I chickened out after a couple and worried about my gun. I didn't pull them and finally fired them after 2 or 3 years after they came out with the Single Seven. The 110gr .327Fed didn't have any thing on those babies. I think it was 9 or 10 it was an even number and it wasn't 8. I wasn't even old enough to be senile but it was before I quit drinkin................

Ya'll need to try SR 4759 in your 32-20's. SR 4756 was good, but 4759 is much better...... IF you have any since it was discontinued.
