I paid off the layaway on my new 6 inch Python and need to figure out what holster to go with. I am thinking either Simply Rugged or one of Doc Barranti’s. It will be carried hunting so I am trying to figure out if I want a chest holster, strong side or crossdraw. Any suggestions?

Chest rig is nice, but if you use binoculars around your neck or a binocular chest rig then it’s problematic. If you will be standing most of the time a strongside that pulls the butt tight to the body is quite comfortable, but if you’ll be sitting most of the time depending on barrel length it can be problematic, as well as if you wear it while carrying a rifle slung from your Strongside shoulder. If you’ll be sitting most of the time a crossdraw is comfortable, but it takes some getting used to.

I like all three of the makers mentioned here, Although I have not yet taken delivery of the El Paso 1930 Austin I ordered for my 4 inch .357 Flat top. I know John Taffin likes there work, so i think will I. I should soon getting the Barranti High Country Companion very soon, And the beauty of that is for 125.00 you can get another Holster to fit the Harness. ...tj

I have used the EPS T3P & 2K Full Flap holster in X-Draw. They both work well.

Far and away my favorite rig for hunting is the Diamond D Guide’s Choice. It’s a chest rig that for me easily adjusts out of the way of my binoculars. Easy to wear over or under a coat if needed and can be accessed quietly with minimum movement. Comfortable with my back pack too.

"Hunting holster"...think I would go with the Simply Rugged... It can be worn strongside draw, cross draw or with a the Chest Puller Straps for chest carry...

For a 6" revolver, I really like the "Longhorn Companion" from Doc Barranti. It rides high enough you can set down without it jamming into the seat/ground/stand and can be worn strong side or crossdraw....and can be easily removed from your belt by popping one snap.

I love my Simply Rugged Flap Jack and chesty puller. I got a hammer strap with it but it fits my Seville perfectly, nice and snug. The strap isn't in the way and is easily removed, as is the flap. I find it to be a very versatile rig and quality is top notch. Mine is LH and works perfect with my camera and telephoto lens that hangs from opposite shoulder to right hip. I can also throw on a backpack over it all.

I am thinking a Simply Rugged Sourdough in black Elephant would be an appropriate holster for it

My wife ordered me a Diamond D Guide’s Choice so I am gonna hold off on the Elephant for now. I can’t complain though!
