I wander on occasion and stopped in a small shop today. Haven't seen this many Super Reds in one place for awhile 2 .480's target grey one 7 1/2 one 9 1/2, 7 1/2 .454 grey, couple of .44 mags 7 1/2 and 9 1/2 polished, and another .480 but can't remember grey or polished. Six total from a mans collection who was downsizing . like to post interesting things I see incase anyone is looking for one. Have the stores card and info if anyone is interested. He also had as clean an XP with a 4 digit number as I have seen in a while .

I saw a SRH in .454 today too ! I think if I were a bigger guy I would love those things. But even a standard Redhawk is to big for me. I like Blackhawks , and I would like to try a round butt N frame smith. The Square frames I can sort of shoot but I really need to concentrate. I might do ok with a shorter barreled redhawk , The one I had was 7.5 and I had a hard time keeping the Muzzle up. But talk about taming recoil ! just the weight of a SRH might make a 44 mag feel right tame...tj

I have small hands and have a model 17 that was round butted. I like the gun so well, I thought I would like a round butted N-frame. I got a 29 classic dx model that had one of the round butts. It didn't work at all. I had to put round butt to square butt grips on it to use it. It may sound crazy, (and it may be) but I have found I shoot N-frame guns much better with smooth grips rather than checkered. So today my other N-frames all have square butts and smooth grips. I even shoot the the five screw models with smooth after storing the coke bottle grips for safe keeping.

I once owned a 9.5" Super Redhawk in .454, and it was the hardest kicking handgun I've ever shot! I mean as in PAINFUL. I own a Smith in .500 magnum and I shoot it a lot. Got rid of the .454!

There is a reason checkered grips on sixguns with considerable recoil are called cheese graters. One of the worst offenders ever is a beautiful STI Single Action Sixgun which had plastic/rubber grips which were so heavily checkered could've sanded would with them. They were replaced move one-piece walnut. My classic N-Frame guns have the diamond coke bottle grips on them however I do not shoot heavy loads in them anymore. They can still handle it; I can't. Back in the 1950s I removed diamond stocks and replaced them with custom grips. Those diamonds I gave away are worth at least $300 and more today. I have found the same thing you have when it comes to round butt grips on N-frames.

I have one of the target gray 7.5" Ruger 480's and love shooting it. But even more so after fitting it with Hogue grips.

I have a Super Redhawk, 9.5", and the first chance I get, I'm getting me some hand-filling WOOD grips for it! I hate those Hogues! Mine is in .480 Ruger, and I only shoot cast bullets.

ParallaxBill, I like your pic ! A second handgun here is now getting scoped for life in a tree stand. I had a 44mag RH years back but it was big for my hands and even with a dot sight on it, my plain ole 44mag SBH outshot it and packed easier, so the RH went. I hope those Super Reds all find loving homes and get shot a lot. The Target Grey makes sense in the woods, and should have been used on the Bisley 454 and 480's too. IMHO.

Mine is in .480 Ruger, and I only shoot cast bullets. ***** If you’re talking the original Super Redhawk----rubber grips with walnut panels, which act as fender washers to hold the rubber on the grip-spike design----the grip seems specially designed to whack my middle finger worse than a Super Blackhawk ever dreamed of doing. Hogue wrap-around rubber makes for a shootable Super Redhawk; leastwise, in my hand. My impression from Bill Ruger: it wrankled Bill to see a Pachmayr on his guns. Nor was Bill interested in my suggestion for a Redhawk frame with single action grip to attenuate recoil from hot loads in short barrels. Were he alive today, I believe Ruger’d take an opposite view toward the grip design work of Ronnie Wells. And he most assuredly would see the Ruger 03 dressed in the RWGF brass Bradshaw Bisley with Ronnie Wells Cocobolo scales. David Bradshaw

Wow great find.
I've had a Redhawk with Rings since they came out in 1984. I put a Leupold 2X on it and had the barrel ported by a local gunsmith. That 7 1/2" barrel does require a big holster to carry it as a chest rig.
I guess this one is on the keep forever list. I do enjoy shooting it with my hand loads. Tame those mags down to Special level and shoot it all day.
I put the Pachmayer gripper grips on, with finger grooves, those just did not fit my hand. I them switched over to the Presentation grips and they fit much better. Those original grips on the Redhawk sure did not feel good with full power loads!

The Hogue rubber bumpers don't look like much, that's for darn sure. But they provide that 'Big Car Ride' you need in a Super Redhawk ! My 44 and 480 both came with the wood panel grips on them and they were replaced immediately with the Blue Blob Hogues as fast as possible.

I love my .480 Super Redhawk. It is a killing machine. Shoots under 2" at 100 yards.
