Well, I stopped by my pushers shop yesterday. I guess I should have stayed out of there. I came home with something new to play with. When I came in the door, he said I'm glad to see you, I have something you might want. He went into the back and brought out a S&W M&P 15-22. I handled and drooled on it and told him, if it was one of the newer ones with the treaded barrel and the flash suppressor that I would take it and he just smiled. He stepped back into the back room and brought one out. I'm a man(sucker) of my word and I filled out the paperwork. When I got it home, I took it out of the box to clean it. I got to looking at it and this is a fairly well put together little gun, even if the majority of it is plastic. Hoped to take it to the range today but no luck on that. It's snowing again. Has anyone here had any dealings with this type of rifle. Bill

I had one, mine was a little picky about ammo. The Remington Golden bullet in bulk was unreliable with 2-3 misfires per magazine. Federal bulk .22 ammo wasn't much better. CCI Mini Mags ran 100%, 100 of them did anyway.
It's a fun little gun, very light and handy. And easy to hit with the standard sights.

I have only read hit and miss reports regarding the quality and reliabilty of it and a couple of the others that have recently cropped up. Be interested to here how yours goes.

Yea, I've heard the same thing about the ammo. I should have a range report this weekend barring another snow storm. I'm ready for spring. We are just not use to this down here. Bill

Bill;
I hear you. I'm in Murfreesboro but shoot at my Dad's place in Cannon Co. and it's been so mucky from the rain or frozen I haven't done any shooting in two months!
I've heard the Smith is the best running AR-style .22 going; I foolishly got a conversion kit about six months before they started putting these on the market. Had to send it back and get a replacement from CMMG, but using it in my Colts the accuracy is far from stellar.
A dedicated .22LR upper or complete rifle is the way to go. Wouldn't be as cheap too shoot, but I sure wish they'd make some uppers/mags in .22 WMR.

I'm hoping to get out Saturday and try it out. Bill

I got to the range today with this rifle and I only have one thing to say about it. THIS THING ROCKS. I shot one whole box of Federal bulk pack and two boxes of Mini-Mags(thats 750 rds)with no failure to feeds. So I decided to try something everyone says it wouldn't like. I shot a box of CCI standard vel and a box of Elley sub sonic and had no problems with it either. The only thing I don't like is the 8 pound trigger. It defiantly needs some new springs and some polishing or maybe a Timney 3 pound trigger dropped in it. Bill

Good deal. That's 10-22 reliability. I tried to go shooting yesterday and got my truck stuck axle deep in the mud! 2 hours later, after jump starting the tractor, etc. it was too dark to shoot. Gonna try again today.

What about accuracy? Is this an accurate gun or a plinker?

Don't really know what it will do. I haven't benched it yet. I kept all shots on a 25 yd squirel target. That was offhand with iron sights. I have sense equiped it with a red dot sight, vertical foregrip with bypod and a flashlight/laser combo. Bill

Well, I'm a happy camper. I put a 3 MOA red dot sight on it and took it to the range to sight it in. After I got it sighted in, I shot 150 rds into one target. This was shot at 25 yards OH. The black is 2 3/4" across. This ought to ware out a squirrel's head, shouldn't it. This is one fun gun. Oh ya, this was shot with Fed. bulk pack ammo. Bill

give the federal 330 round bulk pack of match pistol target a try. superb accuracy in 10/22 bull barrel, a 10" amt bull and ruger 6.875 match slab target. usually inside 3/4" without any effort. bear down a bit and 1/2" at 25yds is completely within reason. $16/box at walmart.

Ya, I have some of that. Just haven't tried it yet. With a 3 MOA dot, that is most likely as good as it gets. Not really looking for bench rest quality groups with this rifle, I have a Cooper LVT for that. This one is for fun shooting and thinking about it as a house gun. Don't have to worry about the 22's going thew the wall and killing my wife or son. Given proper shot placement, it will definitely discourage an intruder. Bill
